Every time I hear someone claim that sex is changeable, often by something as unrelated to reality as words, thoughts, or pieces of paper, I’m left wondering what on earth they thought the fight for women’s rights was even for, if we all could have just put on trousers and changed our names to Thomas and received equality? Why bother with marches, speeches, petitions, imprisonments and police brutality? They must think it reflects how desperately attached we must be to dresses and lipstick. Or, more likely, they don’t think about it at all.
