Over the weekend there were three US election related stories in our media:
– Biden mixed something up.
– Biden angry at reporting that he got something mixed up.
– Is Jill Biden really running America?
It all feels like a re-run of 2016, where Trump can be a crass, dangerous, lunatic (who also mixes things up), but the media don’t really care. We’ve even got the obvious misogyny of the press automatically assuming that some conniving women is the real power behind the throne. We regularly see that with the wives of world leaders if they ever appear in public as anything other than mindless, simpering ornaments. Of course we also see the reverse when the world leader is a women, their husband is automatically portrayed as either emasculated or a layabout. Increasingly I feel like I’m stuck in idiocracy.
What will Trump’s meltdown look like if he loses the election? If Trump does lose the election, will he run again in 2028? If Trump wins, how ugly is it going to be? If Biden wins and something happens to him, what would a Harris succession look like? So many grim questions. :(
