Serena is one of the very few women I would back to beat a mediocre male, but even she would struggle against the likes of Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic or even Marcos Giron.
“The Sports Bra”? The name of an outfit meant to showcase the achievements of female athletes? Why then would you choose a name that highlights only the Male Gaze? The sexualization of women and girls, which explains men’s interest in women’s gymnastics and women’s beach volleyball? Sexualization and titillation of men explains that name, far more than any commitment to or recognition of women or girl athletes.
Quite right Maddog. Remember years ago when Nike sponsored Anna Kornikova the tennis player. The slogan was ‘only the ball should bounce’. Even at the time that felt tone deaf.
@ Rev Brindley, both Serena and Venus played, and lost, to the then world ranked #203 Karsten Braasch. Neither match was even close, and Braasch didn’t treat the matches particularly seriously.
Gallagher “won” the state girls’ championship in class 6A (the classes are by size of school, 6A for the biggest) with a 200 meter time of 23.82 seconds.
The winner of the 200M boys’ division in class 6A, Mihaly Akpamgbo, came in at 21.37, more than two seconds faster than Gallagher. The last runner in that race came in at 22.44.
Aayden Gallagher wouldn’t even have qualified for the boys’ division competition. Gallagher is not only a cheat but a mediocre athlete.

Perhaps they could have these words on the wall.

Winning is what it’s all about for these grubs; winning at any cost, but never to themselves.
