I’m amazed that any lawyer would want to represent Trump, considering how he doesn’t pay his bills. Were they paid in advance? Any plumber, electrician or other tradesman would not even examine the leaky pipe or faulty socket without an upfront payment.
Sure, but that’s a separate issue. The fact that he has to have representation doesn’t mean any particular lawyer has to represent him…unless no one will agree to do it voluntarily, which hasn’t been reported as far as I know.
There are well-known cases of Jewish lawyers defending Nazis. I recall one possibly fictionalized interview in which the lawyer spoke of the importance of rule of law, saying, paraphrased, “If I don’t defend them when everyone thinks they are monsters, who will defend me when everyone thinks I’m a monster?” The law strikes me as one area where personal feelings must be set aside to focus on the task at hand.

It’s a bit like that frontier American caution: “Never kick a skunk.” Lawyers representing Trump would need to have their eyes wide shut.
