Deeply concerned about his trajectory
Defiance has become as much a part of Joe Biden’s psychology as Delaware.
Well that’s one way of putting it. Another way is that Joe Biden is all for Joe Biden.
But as the president and his inner circle dig in following his disastrous debate performance last week, a growing number of Democratic leaders are saying they want him to step aside for the good of the party – and the country.
“Digging in” isn’t always a virtue.
“There’s a large and increasing group of House Democrats concerned about the president’s candidacy, representing a broad swath of the caucus,” another House Democratic lawmaker told CNN on condition of anonymity to speak candidly. “We are deeply concerned about his trajectory and his ability to win. We want to give him space to make a decision [to step aside], but we will be increasingly vocal about our concerns if he doesn’t.”
Biden is expected to meet Wednesday with Democratic governors and congressional leaders, the White House said Tuesday. The announcement came after CNN reported that some governors expressed concerns about the president’s debate performance. The governors, one source said, were worried about going public with their concerns out of fear it would lead to Biden digging in further.
Great. We can’t tell him to get out because he’ll just dig in, so we’re stuck with him. Heads he wins tails we lose.
Why is the USA so incapable of elevating younger people to high positions?
Trump – far too old and doddery.
Biden – ancient and riddled with senility.
Across the pond, you see Sunak 44, Starmer 61, Farrage 60, and Denyer 38. Even the oldest is more than 20 years younger than the “best the USA can offer”.
Well we haven’t always done it this way – think Kennedy, Clinton, Bush 2, Obama. But why are we doing it now?? I have no idea.
The American Empire is geriatric in its policies philosophies and practices.
what do we expect?
We obviously have a Biden problem (clearly lacking judgment), but the longer this goes on, the more glaringly obvious it becomes that we have a Democratic Party problem. Every single one that comes out to back Biden, rather than state the obvious problem and back solutions is another nail in the coffin for public trust in the party.
Not just the UK. Here in France we’re in between the first and second rounds of a parliamentary election. Gabriel Attal, the present Prime Minister, is 35; his most likely successor, Jordan Bardella, is 28. The President, Emmanuel Macron, is 46. In Italy, Giorgia Meloni is 47.
Sadly, I see one strength in the conservative position: it is almost completely single-minded (mindless?) in its push to back Trump. The opposition by contrast is riddled with fractions disputes. As weak as Biden is, failing to back him improves Trump’s chances. Woefully old and doddering is better than disastrous.
Yes, but, again, lots of voters won’t see it that way.
