Cheering on self-immolation
An active-duty member of the US Air Force who set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, on Sunday, has died, authorities said. Aaron Bushnell, 25, said in a video of the incident obtained by CNN that he would “no longer be complicit in genocide” and that his suffering was minimal compared to that of Palestinians as the humanitarian crisis persists in Gaza.
He then sets the recording device on the ground before pouring an unknown liquid over himself and igniting it while yelling “Free Palestine” repeatedly. He eventually collapses as police officers rush to douse the flames with fire extinguishers.
Then he died. Then…
Sanctimonious fool.
Welp, guess West has finally lost the plot… Surprised any of the (presumably non-Muslim) Free Palestine crowd had the balls to do the self-immolation bit. Poor stupid bastard…
Funny we are not hearing much about his political leanings yet – most I could find is “anarchist light” stuff. Give him some respect – he did himself in and took nobody else with him. Better than most nutcases do. But I am also very relieved he is gone. I just can’t be sad anymore when an unstable person dies.
Oof Southwest88, and I thought I was cold…
I just feel sad. Poor guy thought he needed to kill himself to bring attention to something that has it in abundance already. I would urge anyone who is thinking of following his example to ask themselves whether or not they could do more for their cause by living instead.
Can confirm the lack of balls, Blood Knight, among many of those opposed to the killing of 100 Palestinian children per day for the last four months. It’s about fifty-fifty in my experience. How unlike the magnificent testicles of those brave enough to support the continued US funding of same! Testicles the size of tanks, those people! Many of them not even Jewish (because that’s relevant somehow). I’ve always thought that perhaps the world might live in peace if we could just have more talk about testicle size.
Also, yes. Aaron Bushnell is not a hero
Believe it or not I’m also against killing a shit ton of Gazan kids a day (at least while I’m making utilitarian ethical calculations), my point is that I don’t think too many people that spend their day yelling militant slogans and putting flag emojis in their Twitter bios are particularly fearless or truly committed.
He grew up in a Christian Cult group. Ex members tend to join the military to find a new controlled environment.
