But he’s Irish
We’re waiting for the wings to fall off before we decide to make an emergency landing.
Democrats were caught in an apparent stalemate on Saturday as a dug-in Joe Biden continued to endure high-profile calls to end his re-election campaign after a week of astonishing party moves to unseat the president in favor of a candidate many hope will be more likely to beat Donald Trump.
In the weeks since his disastrous debate performance against Trump, the 81-year-old Biden has attempted to fight off calls for him to step down from the top of the ticket amid concerns that his age and mental acuity are no longer up to the job.
Well you can see his point. There’s no need for mental acuity in the job he’s going for.
Frustration within the Democratic party establishment at what they see as Biden’s intransigence comes as the outlet also reported on Saturday that the president in private is complaining that former aides to presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton would be lecturing him on election strategy after Democratic 1994 and 2010 midterm election losses that he had avoided in 2022.
There’s that mental acuity now. The issue isn’t so much election strategy as it is the wings have fallen off and the ground is getting closer by the second.
According to the Washington Post on Saturday, the tight-knit Biden family has not called an emergency meeting to discuss the spiraling crisis, but is instead exchanging usual daily phone calls and text messages.
Rising anger within the family, which has enjoyed nearly half a century of Joe Biden’s power in Delaware, both as a senator, vice-president and president, is fueled by the belief that his dismal debate performance could still be overcome by a determined fight back and a display of loyalty. “It’s like they don’t know he’s Irish,” the Post quoted a person close to the family.
Oh fuck off with that. We don’t care that he’s Irish. We care about those wings that are gone.
Irishmen get old, too. Dementia doesn’t give two fucks how many pints of the black stuff you’ve had, or how much of the creature you’ve sampled, or how well you enjoyed the craic when you were young. You’re not Cú Chullain, and even the Hound himself wasn’t immortal.
I took it to mean he’s stubborn.
So Hunter is a drug addict so he’s got an excuse, but is Jill senile too?
It’s not 2020 where the polls always said he’d win, not even close. Do the fucking math and ask how fun it will be to be in prison as a senior citizen…
Yes of course it means he’s stubborn, and by golly we can all see he’s stubborn, and we’re not impressed. The “person close to the family” who said that is a buffoon.
I suppose one could more briefly paraphrase that as:
Whatever his mental state, how do you replace him without making things worse for the Democrats?
Well there aren’t any guarantees obviously but this is just suicide.
According to Forbes, Harris v. Trump poll numbers are only slightly lower than Biden v. Trump. Harris has a chance to improve that in the next few months, but not if Biden hangs in there with his numbers slipping. In either case it doesn’t look promising. What a mess.
I think that they are killing the party, perhaps deliberately.
Men are women if we say so – look! They’re conforming to the stereotype of womanhood we created!
Biden is Irish if we say so – look! He’s conforming to the stereotype of Irishness we created!
Didn’t Biden also claim to be a black woman recently? I wonder what stereotypes he thought that he was following…
A hail Mary pass is infinitely preferable to just faffing around on the line of scrimmage.
In my view, changing horses in mid-stream is the suicide. There’s no consensus, there’s no means of achieving any consensus. How do the Democrats propose to pick someone else with essentially no campaign? No one else has any delegates for the Convention. How are the Democrats going to win in November, just over three months away? It’s insane.
It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy created in large part by mainstream media losing their minds over a single 90-minute debate performance. I sometimes think the media corps wants DJT to win, because it’s all about money, and the hell with actual liberty or with democracy. They will find out that there’s no freedom of the press with a dictator.
Biden has been doing the fucking job, and doing it well, with significant successes over the past four years. Instead of sowing all this doubt and division, the Democrats should unite behind a singularly successful incumbent candidate. The moaning and wailing and hand-wringing is what’s going to guarantee a Republican victory.
This Irish nonsense is one of the things I dislike about Biden (not to the extent of preferring the fat orange felon, of course). He’s a lot less Irish than I am (mother born in Dublin to two Irish parents; brought up and educated in Dublin), but there is no reason to shout about it. I would qualify for an Irish passport if I applied for one, but Biden wouldn’t (unless they made a special exception for him).
maddog, of course it’s insane, but going ahead with Biden is more insane.
