Women don’t count
Of course it’s not.
Of course. Of course. Of course. Racial minorities matter. Religious people matter. People with non-conformist sexual orientations matter. People who have swapped gender matter. But women? Pffff. Women don’t matter. Who cares about women? They can just take their lumps. Stupid cows.
(Bit of a fuckup that lesbians apparently matter, but no doubt that’s discreetly managed by just looking the other way when a lesbian is assaulted.)
Why? Because women don’t matter. Never forget that.
Final tweet:
10- what this means is a breach of the peace involving verbal abuse of certain minorities must be prosecuted; but the assault of a woman does not have to be. Whether this is desirable or advisable I leave to others. But it’s where the law stands right now.
It’s not desirable.
And who gets to decide what constitutes abuse? A suffrage ribbon? A limerick? Misgendering? None of these would sound like abuse to the normal observer, which I believe is the usual standard, at least in the US.
And this is the point I was making to a transactivist who shared the link to a paper which claimed that the incidence of hate crimes against transwomen in the US was 4 times the rate against cis women (sic.) I asked him if it accounted for the fact that most crimes against women, such as rape, domestic violence, assault, robbery, etc. were reported as hate crimes. He told me to read the paper.
It is paywalled. So, I didn’t read it, and I doubt he had.
But, I can tell you that it’s very likely that any crime committed against someone who claims to be trans is reported as a hate crime.
And I imagine they are counting other things as well…intentional (by their interpretation) misgendering. Putting up posters. Not centering trans.
Also, I don’t imagine most of the domestic violence against women is counted as a hate crime…domestic violence couldn’t be a hate crime, because the man loves the woman he beats to a pulp, right? And if it isn’t counted as a hate crime, than the stats on women are way low.
On paywalled research, I’m told by a researcher who tweeted it, that researchers are frequently delighted to share their research, free of charge, to members of the public who contact them asking for it.
