He’s not winning, especially not by a lot. Unfortunately, polling is close, and he could easily win…but of course, he must be ‘winning’ and it must be ‘bigly’.
But on topic, there is, of course, a kernel of truth lodged deep within that pile of feces. Politicians shouldn’t use the law, law enforcement, the military, or the costs as mere tools to disadvantage their political opponents. From Jim Crow to gerrymandering, it’s bad for the republic. This is undeniably true.
However, it’s also true beyond doubt that people should not use that norm as a tool to evade facing the consequences for culpability in criminal activity. If candidates for office, high or otherwise, are immune to criminal prosecution, then criminals are incentivized to run for office. That is precisely the antithesis of what we want.
Now, these two facts are in natural opposition, so how do we resolve the tension? It’s a more difficult question than you might at first think, because naive solutions (e.g., penalize one or both sorts of behavior) can themselves incentivize undesirable behavior or disincentivize desirable behavior. We see the same kind of (dis)incentive-design problem in multiplayer video games, and it’s often hard enough to stump very intelligent people in that much more limited domain.
A fun fact is that if it weren’t in all-caps, we would be treated to Trump’s weird Random Capitalizations of words and Phrases that makes no sense but apparently signifies Adult Comprehension or something Something, to him.
Why is campaign trail in quotes? Is he quoting someone? Are they scare quotes? My god, this man led USA and he doesn’t know basic English.
Because he “doesn’t know his ass from his elbow.”

NO, IT’S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE USA, BECAUSE WE NEVER HAD SUCH A CORRUPT PRESIDENT. AT LEAST HARDING HAD THE GRACE TO DIE, AND NIXON TO RESIGN.
Apologies for the shouting, but it seems to be the only way to get through to him.
Holms: Air/scare quotes are hard for some people.

I mean, “Trump” has been known to put “his own name” in “scare quotes.”
