To any other community
“We wouldn’t do this to any other community” – yes we would. Of course we would. We would and we do.
Reporter: Ms Robison, do you still stand by what you said in Parliament, there’s no evidence that predatory men have ever had to pretend to be anything else to carry out abusive behavior – we’ve just had the case today of Andrew Miller, do you still stand by what you said last year?
Robison: Well the vast majority of trans people are just wanting to get on with their lives. Of course what we’re talking about here are people who’ve committed very serious crimes – now I wouldn’t want to talk about the case because it’s still ongoing, but clearly anybody –
Reporter: He’s admitted the offenses.
Robison: Well anyone who’s admitted an offense is an offender and should be treated as such, but we should not – we wouldn’t do this to any other community – take those cases of offenders and imply that somehow that is an issue for the rest of the trans community.
Me: Yes we should, in exactly the same way we “imply that that is an issue for the rest of the male community.” Which is: we don’t “imply” that all men will assault and rape women if given the opportunity, but we do know that some will, and that they are bigger and stronger than women, and that’s why we don’t force women to get naked in the presence of men. It works exactly the same way with “the trans community,” or to put it less dishonestly, with male members of “the trans community.”
Robison of course continues to refuse to grasp the point, and the reporter thanks her and moves on.
This is one of the issues that makes me cry inside with frustration. Trans allies refuse to admit to hearing anything except “you think Transwomen are all sexual deviants!” I can explain it six ways to Sunday that no, I don’t think that, and that this is a huge opening for men who want easy access to women with no social barrier for safeguarding. They turn their ears completely off.
It’s not stupidity. It’s a deliberate brick wall.
I know. Maddening.
Pretending one is something one is not and engaging in all kinds of masochistic, dangerous drugs and surgeries is some kind of deviance though?
Mike,
Someone described this today as a sort of safety in numbers: “since everyone else is doing it (saying GC people think all trans people are predators, even though they know it’s not true) then we can, too!”
In fact, this person said it in regard to defining “woman” in a consistent way, without reference to stereotypes or sexes or genders, which includes some men and some women: “since nobody else is doing it, we don’t have to, either!”
It doesn’t actually explain anything but it’s a useful pattern. Once it’s in your mind, you see it everywhere!
By that logic, my locked front door is a screaming accusation against my neighbours, passing dog walkers, delivery drivers and more that I believe they are thieves and worse. The locksmith and hardware store are hatemongers dividing society, obviously.
Ah, this story. Radio 4 reported this as “a transwoman has pleaded guilty to abducting and sexually assaulting a girl” at least once yesterday – I was surprised when I heard it (as in, surprised they reported it that way). But never fear, later on the story became “man pleads guilty to abducting and sexually assaulting girl while dressed as a woman”. One news bulletin with an example of a predatory transwoman; the next with just another example of a predatory man. You never hear of transwomen being a danger to women and girls, no.
