Passion and anger=she made me bash her
Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP does a classic “that bitch made me do it” pretend apology:
“Passion and anger” because a woman thinks women should continue to have single-sex spaces. Male MP can’t control his rage when a female MP seeks to protect women’s rights.
He limited replies to people he follows, but there are many angry quote-tweets.
How is this devolution? Power is not flowing from higher to lower here as this guy ironically demonstrated to great effect by being a guy threatening a woman.
Obligatory response.

Ha my brother did that to me a lot when I was a kid.
# Pliny: the devolution aspect is that this is being debated in the UK parliament as a result of a move by the Scottish government to lower the age at which it is possible to get a GRC in Scotland. Currently it’s 18, and the SNP government have passed a law to change it to 16.
The UK government have stepped in and vetoed the measure, and there’s now likely to be a court case to establish who will get their way.
Healthcare policy is devolved and the NHS in Scotland is run separately from the rest of the country, so the SNP position is that this is a medical matter that Scotland can decide for itself. The UK government is responding that equalities legislation is a reserved matter (i.e. it is for the government in London to decide for the whole of the UK, ) and so the Scots aren’t entitled to create a situation where a 16 year old can be legally a boy in Scotland and a girl in England, Wales and N. Ireland.
So in short there are some other considerations in play beyond whether you think increasing access to GRCs is a good idea. I’m not convinced that Russell-Moyle would be making a big issue out of his commitment to devolution if the Scots were proposing to raise the age at which a GRC can be obtained to 25 though.
