Gee I wonder why.
What’s stopping them? The fact that they won’t win, of course. The whole point of invading women’s sports was the guaranteed win. William Thomas was a middle of the pack swimmer; Lia Thomas won first prize. It really is that simple.
I see the sport of fencing has also been taken over by gender ideology.
Trans-Identified Males Racking Up Wins in Women’s Fencing As Trans Activist Officials Claim They Are Fine With Female Athletes Being At A “Disadvantage”
Women were only allowed to fence foil initially; saber and epee were perhaps too “rough”. Then, in recent decades, saber and epee competitions added women’s divisions. Now those women’s divisions are being invaded.
It’s not necessarily “that simple” because, given the way being trans is described and taught, a male who identified as transgender could in theory have no interest in a guaranteed win — but a great deal of interest in being validated. The ideology claims that failing to treat trans people as their true gender causes existential pain. A third category singles them out, tells them “you’re not a real woman.” If your entire existence is wrapped up in the belief that you ARE and others need to reinforce that, then you would refuse to apply for that reason alone.
Not denying that at least some of them want that guaranteed win, of course. But the empty “trans” category is going to be spun as standing on principle and/or avoiding emotional damage, and people often find it easy to believe what supports a flattering view of themselves.
Sastra, if it’s about validation then that shows up their claims of just wanting to be allowed to participate in the sport they love as yet another attempt at emotional blackmail.
Besides, the open category does validate them. They claim to be equal-but-different women and so they’ve been offered an equal-but-different category. The sport has made an attempt to accommodate them by creating a category that can be described in exactly the same way they describe themselves, and one they can enter while being their ‘true’ selves no questions asked. How can that not be seen as anything other than validation of their own claims about themselves? So their refusal to use such a category puts the lie to the validation claim.
But they’ve rejected third spaces for bathroom facilities; it’s the Women’s room or nothing. Anything less is bigotry.
But is perfectly consistent with ” TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN!” They want it both ways, all the time. The confusion of sex and gender is a deliberate strategy. They will slip between distinction and conflation as it suits them, at that moment. The next moment might need the other definition.
