Merry Intersex Awareness Day
The European Commission has a Justice and Consumers Department.
Justice and Consumers
This Commission department is responsible for EU policy on justice, consumer rights and gender equality.
Seems like a weird mashup but ok. The point is it’s a real department of the real European Commission. It’s not a hoax. And yet, it tells us…
One, intersex people are either male or female. Two, there’s no such thing as a “right” for people to “be exactly who they are.” There’s the tautology that people are exactly who they are, and there’s the fantasy that people can be whatever they say they are. The tautology is tautological, and the fantasy is childish and absurd.
Also are there any days that aren’t about something to do with Magic Gender?
Well, yesterday was International Artist’s Day, but since so many artists are gay, I suppose even that one could be said to be about trans. Of course, even if there wasn’t a single trans artist anywhere in the world, they would manage to make it about them. I suppose they have managed to insert themselves into National Pickle Day and National Pet Day.
That one’s for Furries.
It was only relatively recently that I noticed the “intersex” bit of the Progress Pride flag (the 0 on the yellow ground bit on the white bit of the “trans” bit over the original, late, lamented Pride Rainbow). It’s so hard to keep up. If they keep adding more bits of earnestly meaningless colour, it’s going to be unreadable as anything without a microscope. Here’s what happens when you put a bunch of flags together in a tiny space: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-all-flags-of-the-world-in-one-flag-with-shadow-125588287.html
The Identitarians seem determined to give this mash-up a run for its money. A flag for everyone, meaning nothing. Works for me.
“One, intersex people are either male or female. ”
I don’t think so always, I think intersex (not trans) often genuinely means having ambiguous genitals. Like someone with a vagina and a penis, someone with a vagina and testicles, that sort of thing. Intersex people are often surgically “corrected” soon after birth, but that’s pretty horrible, I mean being against genital surgery on underage people should also include for example cutting somebody’s testicles off when they’re too young to consent for no medical reason because testicles aren’t supposed to go with a vagina.
They’re still either male or female, it’s just the genitals that are ambiguous. The main point is that there are no intermediate gametes. Now there has been the occasional true hermaphrodite but I think that’s more a case of chimerism.
Well, it’s not quite that straight forward. Taking Wikipedia – that well known left wing progressive conspiracy – as a source, intersex makes up as much as 0.07% of live births and true gonadal hermaphroditism makes up an estimated 5% of that number. According to wikipedia, so far 500-525 cases have been identified (which doesn’t really align with the 5% of intersex estimate.
So, very rare, but truely ambiguous.
What is meant by “true hermaphrodism”? Like, having a functional set of both male and female genitals? Has that ever actually existed?
TDD, here’s the wiki link and a more scientific citation.
