If they buy the drugs you sell
But what is “your gender identity”? What is a “gender identity”? What does that mean? How do we know? What is the impersonal evidence for it? How is it different from a “soul”?
“You know it feels better when your body, mind and hormone profile matches your soul. Why wouldn’t it?”
Updating to add Mr Menno’s response.
“Why wouldn’t it?” What’s this tactic called, some variation of argument from ignorance? “I can’t imagine it any differently, therefore this is true.” I’ve seen this kind of argument made in discussions about religion and about evolutionary psychology as well as gender ideology, but it doesn’t work. In this case, I’m not at all convinced that “it feels better” for all people who engage in these medical and surgical interventions. Increasingly many people are being public about detransitioning. I think the burden of proof is on those claiming “it feels better” for most, and I think the evidence indicates otherwise.
Perhaps apropos here: a detransitioner, Chloe Cole, wrote an excellent post over at Reality’s Last Stand, responding to a 5/16 NYT article that was dismissive of her and other detransitioners. Here is her response:
We’re Not Going Away: My Response to the New York Times Hit Piece
She provides many supporting links to back up the points she makes.
The NYT article: How a Few Stories of Regret Fuel the Push to Restrict Gender Transition Care
That oh-so-casual “why wouldn’t it” made me see red. I personally find it hard to argue against wilful ignorance. It’s good to see at least three people don’t have that problem.
Good grief, anyone who’s ever experienced brain trauma knows how easily those feelz can go awry.
