Her career
Laurie Penny getting things backward again.
Is she…unaware of the professional consequences for gender-critical women? Is she unaware of Kathleen Stock? Is she unaware of the actual police persecution of gender-critical women? Is she unaware of pretty much everything but herself?
Narcissists tend to be unable to empathize with the out-group, so Penny’s obliviousness is unsurprising.
It’s back to the 1970s – two rival “establishments” squaring up against each other. I have my fingers crossed that history will repeat itself with the emergence of a fresh generation of plague on both your houses youngsters who selectively fake adherence to each side in turn for the purpose of winding up their elders of both persuasions. If so, let’s hope that more of them mature into thoughtful liberals than into nihilistic libertines.
Up is down. Black is white. Men are women.
Can you represent a movement centered on fetishizing and appropriating victimhood without playing the victim?
I’m not sure that her career was ever going to recover from her bad, muddled writing and thinking being so proudly displayed over the last few years. Frames of reference I guess.
Penny recently worked as Executive Story Editor for the expensive Amazon series “Carnival Row”.

Far from her career suffering, it seems being a Transmaiden has been very lucrative for her.
Something like DaVinci 2.0 has probably killed her career already (and I’m quite sure it doesn’t “think” TWAW).
Could she list some instances? Jenny Lindsay in the Edinburgh poetry scene had a very hard time with her far more modest career when she said that threatening violence against women wasn’t cool, and could specify where and how she had been dropped, along with the malicious campaign against her from colleagues in the arts. Google her Anatomy of a Hounding of what it’s like when this happens.
Not being given writing gigs because of your political opinions is a difficult thing to prove – you can be dropped for other reasons eg budgetary, reconsideration of your talent, not delivering profits/audiences etc. So she should really lay it out how and where this has happened.
James Bloodworth, a very good left wing journalist in the UK, points out:-
“Don’t all political views come with ‘serious professional consequences’ as a writer? Literally all the lefty publications keep people out of their pages for not being orthodox enough.”
“Like, you’re only getting published in the first place because of zeitgeisty politics. And then sometimes the political wind changes and you’re out again. That’s literally political writing.”

Penny is a good writer on her day – but her career did start with the zeitgeist as a feministy/cultural commentator with the NS, when she was sympathetic eg to Islamists who wanted to have sex segregated public meetings – but times have moved on.
I imagine that writers who specialized in promoting Lysenkoism stopped getting gigs once their pet “theory” fell out of favour.
