Duly noted
It was a beautiful spring day so I went to the far side of town to walk on a different beach from the one a 20 minute walk from me. On the last bus back, a few blocks from home, a teenage boy got on wearing this:
Updating to add:
It’s “funny.” It’s a “funny” T shirt.
Of course he does, he should be using a knife to trim his steak, not a garden tool.
Seriously though, what happened to all the teens who reacted with “Don’t be a hater?”
If that kid isn’t already an incel, he’s about to become one.
@Twiliter:
I took it to mean that he hates hoes with overly thick handles, presumably because they are difficult to grip properly while he is gardening. But your interpretation is also compelling. Truly, this t-shirt is such a rich text with so many layers.
Strikes me as a ‘lets go Brandon’ kind of thing. A way to say Assholes without saying asshole.
I can understand why you don’t like it Ophelia, but I just don’t care myself. I suspect this is due to my having spent my career working in a male dominated profession within a male dominated industry. This sort of humor was widely laughed at throughout my earlier working career, along with lots of racist and other currently verboten subjects of jokes. If I couldn’t ignore it, I couldn’t have stayed in my profession.
I can’t say I think much of someone who would wear it, but then again, I don’t think of people who wear t-shirts with offensive words and images these days. I’m in my 60’s and I find to my shock and dismay, the world really does appear to be going to he!! in a handbasket. But I don’t get shocked by that sort of rebellion on display, it just makes me sad. When I was young, I relished it. It’s hard to tease out how much of my reaction is due to my own aging sensibilities and how much is due to the world seemingly falling apart right now and for the foreseeable future.
“I’m wearing it ironically.”
#3 As The Smoke
You just reminded me of the best Two Ronnies sketch ever.
Holmes, I’d forgotten that sketch. Growing up that was one of my mothers few must watch programs. A real cracker.
Beth @ 4 – It’s not a matter of my emotions about it though, it’s a matter of the reality. I didn’t say anything about not liking it, I reported what I saw and how it’s marketed.
