Dig
Ok this is going well.
So this is a quiz now? Or a treasure hunt? Dig where? With what kind of tools?
Then why announce it on Twitter at all? Why tell the world it happened, and then get offended when people ask for the specifics? Who are “they”? If there’s a spokesperson why not just say who and quote her/him? Why the bizarre mix of “hey guess what!” and “it’s a secret”?
What room?? If you want the journalists to take over why bring it up in the first place?
Then why bring it up?? If you can’t tell us how you know then why bring it up?
The issue isn’t what I believe, the issue is why anyone should believe any of it in the total absence of sources or even specifics? “Rugby” and “Hamilton, Ontario” aren’t quite enough.
I don’t know. Maybe it’s Rachel McKinnon in heavy disguise.
Gee, where have I heard that before?
“Do your own research” sounds familiar.
“…you’d find your own spokesperson”
HOW? By asking every citizen of Hamilton? What a nitwit. Misinformation doesn’t help anyone, as regular readers hear certainly know.
Seems pathetic to have to say it, but kudos to our host here for not spreading unverified information as truth.
Another fishy thing about the story is that, despite Diana Murphy being the only apparent source, the location of the incident appears to have shifted by over 300 miles, from Ottawa to Hamilton. Not sure how that happened. I’m intrigued and I’m looking into it further.
In one of the tweets, she describes the injuries as resulting from “dump tackles” which, she explains, are when a player is tackled and lands on their head.
Now, I know a thing or two about rugby and what’s described (a “spear tackle”, not a dump tackle, although terminology may differ in different parts of the world) is an immediate sending-off offence at all levels of the game. If it happened three times in one match, then the referee is incompetent. Normally, an offence like that would result in a ban of 4-8 matches; if it happens again, the ban would go up to 8-16 matches and a third offence in a short time could see the player banned for six months or more (possibly even for life).
So, you’re right, something is fishy here.
Closest I can find is this old story out of Guam.
https://www.kuam.com/story/46261367/tiyan-rugby-coach-calls-for-ban-on-transgender-players-after-injuries-at-weekend-match
“Three Tiyan High School female rugby athletes were injured Saturday by a transgender player from Guam High.”
This was then picked up by other news sources such as the Washington Examiner. This was back in April of 2022, and spread to various other news platforms.
Yes, the Guam story is what I found yesterday when I first tried to find corroboration. The fact that it was three players moved Murphy’s story from “lacking evidence” to a flashing warning sign.
Somewhere, someone’s pants are on fire.
Ophelia Benson
Yep.
Slightly OT, but I first read this post on my phone where the avatars are tiny and OB’s looked very much like a facepalm which added much needed humor to the dialog.
@ Mike Kuebler – I’m reading on my tablet but I still see a “God’s give me strength” type of hand to the forehead until I look again.
Yes that is the general emotion I was describing, perhaps my vocabulary is not up to date. I was thinking the slow exasperated Jean-Luc Picard meme to clarify.
Haha, I think what we’ve established is that the heading of “facepalm” needs subcategories!
