Chivalry
We saw the pretend mother in the ITV News item several hours ago. Some hours before that Rosie Duffield commented on the pretend mother.
The TUC claimed that the man pretending to be a woman was being subject to abuse “because he is a mother.” But he’s not a mother, because he’s not a woman. Also, saying a man is not a woman is not “abuse.” I suppose it can be if you accost the man in public and scream in his face and so on, but just saying that a man who called himself “a mum” in a news item is not in fact a mum is not abuse.
Owen Jones went ballistic.
If he is running the washing machine with 4 items of clothing, and washing dishes with a running faucet, NO WONDER his water bills are high. Why is a commercial about scarce water resources showing this guy squandering precious water in such wasteful ways? Mixed up messages in this advert.
That little playlet of “loading the washing machine” was the fakest loading of a washing machine I’ve ever seen. Here’s a rag and a sock and a shirt and a toy, there we go, laundry all loaded into the washer.
When my sister and I were young, our dad did all the laundry, most of the cooking, and most of the other housework. He worked too, but not the long hours of work and continuing education that my mom did. It was a good arrangement and very domestic, but no one ever questioned his masculinity or manhood — he did what needed to be done. That used to be a hallmark of responsible people, it had nothing to do with what men or women were ‘supposed to do.’ Now they joke about things like that, and dress up like it’s acceptable to stereotype women and mock them. I live alone and do all of my own chores. I find it necessary and don’t even think about what kind of role I am playing, I just get stuff done that needs to be done. No one questions my masculinity either, I am very much a stereotypical male for all intents and purposes. They used to call men who did child rearing and domestic work Mr. Mom, but the reality is that stereotypes are garbage. People who live up to their responsibilities are beyond reproach, and there are no men who pretend to be women and mock women who deserve special consideration or celebration. Good on him if he’s doing what needs to be done, but he could just as well do that as a man and call himself a dad. But no, he wants special attention. For these people it seems as if being as a failure as a good and decent man entails “transitioning” and then failing as a woman. Yeah, you can play dress up all you want and act out your role as a ‘mum,’ but it’s a mockery and a failure. It just goes to show that you can reach an age of being physically able to procreate without having to ever mature into an adult at all.
Haha @2 sorry I just made a similar comment on the first post about this guy….
Don’t be sorry, there can’t be too many such comments on this guy!
Yes, that happens when you decide that “TWAW” is a more important message in a PSA about saving water than the actual message about saving water.
