Bold steps
This is why we can’t do anything about global warming.
China seeks ‘bold’ steps to lift birth rate
So that more people will have to deal with the horrors in the future. Never mind what’s good for people already born, and the climate they depend on, and the resources they need – just keep doing more and more until everyone is gone.
What’s good for people already born… well, given the demographics of China, the people already born will soon include a whole lot of sick, lonely seniors with nobody to care for them.
America only avoids imminent population decline through immigration. This is why the demography of America has changed, and continues to change, so rapidly – America will become “majority minority” by the middle of this century.
China doesn’t have that, or want that – they’re busy exterminating non-Han people in China, and don’t want any others. So if tomorrow’s Han geezers want the proper sort of Chinese to care for them in their dotage, they need to increase the Han birth rate. Which they will likely fail to do – several countries have tried and none have succeeded long-term in doing this.
Maybe they’ll just go full-on Logan’s Run instead.
Back when I still listened to Skeptics Guide to the Universe, this is what I would think of when they do a story on longevity and get all excited about living until we’re 150. Why solve that problem when it looks like everyone’s going to be crowded in 125F heat on high ground?
@1 Sick lonely male seniors. (Though women do typically live longer, so maybe the sex imbalance will be less as the population ages.)
Well it’s the one positive thing about all the femicide: women represent a much bigger bottleneck to baby making than men do (which is to say men don’t represent any sort of bottleneck at all). Now for quality of life reasons killing the males makes a lot more sense, but who’s gonna do that?
