According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 81% of women and 43% of men report experiencing sexual harassment and/or assault sometime in their lives.
Makes 16% sound pretty good…even if it’s really that high.
That’s like Trump’s valuation figures, when looking for a tax break. 6% ?!? I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been sexually harassed. It’s much closer to 100%.
The numbers are significantly less believable than how sexy a bearded twenty something male would appear while pretending to be a coquettish teen girl.
It almost made me a theist again. Absolutely everything about the social conditioning and control of girls and women is based on a patriarchal world view, and every aspect of femininity is designed to please men, regardless of what it does to the female half of the human race; almost as if a vicious, egocentric, narcissistic male god really did win Earth in a war against the goddesses who previously kept our planet and her inhabitants safe.
How else would I explain the current situation?
Sigh.
Women started to organise against the impositions of femininity, and classification as sub-human. Men immediately used their control of the media to bombard the population with messages reinforcing the message that real women conform to the expectations of patriarchy. When many refuse, men themselves adopt the trappings, and insist (against all reason, logic, and reality) that their adherence to the outward appearance, which they wish to impose on women, makes them ‘more real’ women than we are; thus displaying astonishing narcissistic ignorance of the fact that, under the layers of patriarchal dictates, there are really real people.
The real reason for the ludicrous claim to ‘woman’ is to make damn sure that women can’t organise without men present, to stifle our attempts at self-emancipation. Just as slave-owners employed other evil men as overseers, to keep the slaves from organising a revolt.
P.P.S. To what does the percentage refer? The fraction of members of each demographic who have experienced sexual harassment throughout their lives? Or the percentage of time each and every member spends being sexually harassed during their lives? Because each is very different.
I think Mr. Brindley has it right: the events claimed by TIMs as “sexual harassment” are not the same as the events experienced by women as sexual harassment.
Their wet dream is being treated like an actual woman, or to be more specific, treated as poorly as an actual woman. Catcalls, physical abuse, inappropriate propositions – these are what the TIMs are wishing would happen, it’s what gives AGPs a stiffie. But people saying they’re ugly and don’t look like real women, women trying to get away from them out of perceived threat, exclusion from spaces and gatherings – the opposite of the former list – this is what they say is sexual harassment.
@iknklast even 81% seems low to me if the stats include both harassment and assault. Of course anecdotal evidence doesn’t count as data, but I don’t think I have ever met a teen or adult woman who has not at some point experienced sexual harassment. (Makes me wonder if at least some of the negative respondents had internalized rationalizations like “boys will be boys”, or “he didn’t really mean it that way, I was just being too sensitive”.)
Seanna, that could be what it is. Sooner or later, if you read enough sources, some woman will inform you how it isn’t harassment, it’s just friendly relations between employees, and by the way, she likes it when men hit on her. Okay, fine. Put a sign on your shirt that says, “Hit on me, leave all the other women alone. They don’t want you, and I do.”
It’s like the whole prostitution argument, where they trot out a handful of women who decided to take that on as a career choice and loved it. All the other women have to suffer with their humiliation by pimps and johns because some women don’t suffer that, or do but don’t consider it a problem.

Trans women experience sexual harassment every time they look in a mirror.
Trans women experience sexual harassment whenever they realise they’re not as hot as India Wannabe.
Trans women experience sexual harassment every time their thong meets their testes.
Trans women experience sexual harassment every time they have to buy more foundation than CIS women.
Trans women experience sexual harassment every time they get aroused as they think of themselves as a woman.

“Coquettish.” What a perfect word. God how I hate coquettish.
Also thanks Rev, very droll.

P.S. I’m not remiss in ignoring women who wish to become men in my musings; the graphic ignores them, too.
