Several people have remarked that the vast majority of the negative comments about this event are criticisms of the way some of the women look and dress, many of them along these lines. I don’t think I’d fully appreciated until quite recently just how much hatred there is for butch lesbians from all directions. I knew it existed, to be sure, I’ve had butch lesbian friends for most of my life, but I don’t think I’d realised quite how ubiquitous and relentless it is.
This wasn’t Willoughby’s only tweet about this lunch. There’s this, for instance:

I think Willoughby really does believe that the opposition’s stance is grounded in matters of appearance. It’s hard to fathom that someone could be told something hundreds if not thousands of times yet somehow remember hearing the opposite, but …

Sure. The woman in question does happen to be a butch lesbian, though. I should probably have made that clear.
Interesting, Mr. Willoughby appears to believe there is a difference of appearance between female humans and male humans pretending to be female.
