What we say three times is true
Joan Smith on that ridiculous (and insulting) ruling:
“Sex is not limited to biological or birth sex,” according to one of [Scotland’s] most senior judges.
Yes, you did read that right. We are plunging ever deeper into la-la land, where sex is no longer determined by boring old things like biology or physical characteristics. It can be changed by a piece of paper, known as a gender recognition certificate (GRC), with unpredictable consequences for women-only services such as the new sexual violence service set up by JK Rowling in Edinburgh.
Usually the law has no truck with la-la land. It can’t afford to. We can’t afford it to.
The decision explodes the argument by Nicola Sturgeon’s government that its proposed changes to the 2004 Act, scheduled to be rushed through the Scottish Parliament next week, are merely administrative. By the end of this year, according to the current plan, anyone in Scotland will be able to acquire a GRC with next to no safeguards; they won’t even need a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, while measures to exclude convicted sex offenders have been rejected.
La-la land but not the fun kind.
I wonder what happens when Scotland’s schools and universities continue to teach what sex is, and that humans are diecious and gonochoric. Or will they cave, choosing instead to teach fantasy as science?
@holms
They’ll “teach the controversy” with an opening statement before each class that biology was invented by colonialism so the student should make up their own mind.
Yes, I’m retiring at the end of the Spring semester. Part of why is the nonsense that pervades education, in large part because it is now being run as a business rather than a service. We must keep the customers happy.
At this point, I am still teaching sex correctly. I intend to continue doing so.Why would I be bothered if they decided to give me a disciplinary form in my file? I’m out of here.
But when nonsense of the nutty left kind reaches rural Nebraska, you know it has extended a long way. This school is not liberal, and definitely not woke. It caters to a particularly conservative, Trumpista type of student. But we still have to allow men into women’s bathrooms without saying anything. In short, they don’t have to be trans-identified, We are to assume they are, and keep our mouths shut.
On a campus with so many female students, many who come from an abusive background, that policy is destructive and dangerous.
If I need a GRC to “prove” I’m a woman, I’m pretty sure I’m still a man.
So when does the policing of what kids are taught in school about sex and gender push into what is taught to even younger kids at home? Are you telling me we can’t teach our children what males and females are? What are the penalties for that going to be? The pushback will be extreme.
