Trump to headline gun celebration
Former president Donald Trump will headline a forum at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Houston this Friday — about a four-hour drive from where a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Tex., killed at least 19 children and two teachers on Tuesday.
Trump said Wednesday he would keep the appearance, in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Yeah he’s a tough guy, he’s not gonna let other people’s agony stop him dancing on the graves of a bunch of kids.
The Memorial Day weekend event is the year’s largest for the gun lobby meeting after cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s set to take place over three days and “showcase over 14 acres of the latest guns and gear,” according to its official website.
What are guns as consumer items for? They’re not primarily for shooting game, so what are they for? What do people need assault rifles for?
Overthrowing the government, I guess – that would be one item. “Self-defense” – like blowing away that guy jogging through the neighborhood because hey it’s a white neighborhood and he’s not white so he must be there to steal your stuff.
The forum is also slated to include Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem, and North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson — all Republicans. The next night, “American Pie” singer Don McLean is due to perform.
…
Cruz tweeted Tuesday that he was “fervently lifting up in prayer the children and families in the horrific shooting in Uvalde.”
Yeah see that does no good. That’s worthless. Fuck that. Nobody wants your fervent lifting up in prayer bullshit. What we need is for you and the rest of those ruthless bloodthirsty fucks to stop blocking gun control laws. That’s it. Just your job.
To me it’s a fetish. Have you ever watched them clean their “precious”? They look like Gollum from LOTR. Ammosexuals
Every sensible gun owner I know (and there are a lot of us!) sees (1) absolutely no reason to manufacture or sell military-style weapons to civilians, (2) nothing but sense in all of the commonly suggested gun control regulations for other guns, such as:
– Licensing and registration and yearly relicensing
– Mandatory waiting periods and restrictions on purchases of both guns and ammunition
– FULL background and mental health checks, not the watered-down checks that are currently performed (they just really only check to see if you have a felony conviction)
– Mandatory safety training and safety certifications
– Taxes akin to the so-called “sin tax” here in Washington to pay for mitigation and enforcement (could be part of the yearly relicensing)
– Proof of secure storage, ensured by regular inspection
etc. etc. etc.
Here in Washington it is easier for me to buy a gun and legally conceal it on my person than it is to get licensed to drive a motorcycle. Seriously. It took me two months, four tests, and nearly a thousand dollars just to get that endorsement on my driver’s license, but a Concealed Pistol License is less than $100 and takes 30 minutes at the local police station. No testing requirement, and no need to justify the license, and the CPL is a much more restrictive thing. Your relatives can buy an AR-15 and just give it to you, with no background check requirement and no documentation needed, and that style of gun and the .223 round is specifically designed to kill humans.
It is also a fact that shooting deaths go down when even simple restrictions are implemented. See, for example:
https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/press/dem/releases/studies-gun-massacre-deaths-dropped-during-assault-weapons-ban-increased-after-expiration
That 1994 law wasn’t even very restrictive, either.
Thoughts and prayers are always the best things to do at times like this. Thoughts and prayers don’t cost votes, they don’t lose funding, and they don’t require any hard work.
Meaningful change, however … that requires genuine thought, hard work, and stepping on more than a few toes. They require the one thing lacking in most politicians – courage.
Wtf, Don McLean?
@4 Apparently the McLean has decided not to perform, so good on him I guess? He’s a one hit wonder, and apparently it’s not a good time to be reminded about death and dying. That mediocre song was so overplayed when it came out that I still cringe when I hear it.
Not only are fervent prayers useless but I am positive that they aren’t even doing that much. Whenever I hear someone say that they will pray for someone else I just know that they mean no such thing and that the other party will disappear from their thoughts the second they are out of sight.
I think this is worth linking to whenever the topic of gun control comes up

Don McLean is also a domestic abuser, so really no surprise.
