I get you still want to compete as you feel comfortable but …
No, Ellie, you DON’T get it. It’s not a matter of being “comfortable,” it’s a matter of LIFE AND DEATH!! If transwomen aren’t allowed on women’s athletic teams, then first — they shrivel up in a permanent fetal position — and second, this transphobic attitude spreads everywhere
Think Ellie. Do you want to prevent transwomen from being in women’s prisons, shelters, showers, changing rooms, and rape crisis centers? Do you? Think “you have to be either male or female” in THOSE places? Because next thing, is the public restrooms. And all those lives lost.
@Sastra – when I think of all those invalidated lives, disappearing like the Avengers “Snap.” It’s a million voices, crying out at once in anguish, like Alderaan! It’s just too much. Oh, lord, why did I quite drinking!?
I suggest another alternative. Men who wish to continue competing at an elite level forego HRT until they retire, and the we don’t need any special categories.
I would refuse to race and hope that the other women would stand with me on this too.
People say this a lot, but it’s a non-starter, from what I can tell. For one, these women have put in years of hard training to get to achieve competition prowess; asking them to sit out the race(s) when they’ve done nothing wrong is a lot to ask, and because of that it’s almost certain that not all will do it. There are always going to be athletes who say “no, I’ve trained my entire life for this, I’m not quitting the race!” and they have every right to say and think that.
The only fair solution is to keep the men out of women’s races.
Ya I should have said, I don’t agree with that part at all – it’s grossly unfair to the women. I was rushing (it’s Cooper handover day), and I am glad to see more opposition.
It’s an age-old problem: solutions that require universal compliance are not solutions. The closer to universal compliance you get, the greater the advantage there is to be gained from noncompliance. Anyone remember The Invention of Lying? (Note that this also explains why competing in women’s sports is so tempting for unethical males.) Some things, like a tragedy of the Commons, can only be solved by external enforcement.
“Create Trans gender competitions.” Simpler would be to require all males be restricted to the male division.
Eh, I can see an argument for a trans category. HRT and the like probably will nudge the needle on athletic performance–not enough to give women the ability to compete fairly against transwomen, but plausibly enough to put transwomen at a permanent disadvantage against non-trans men. After all, there’s a reason we have rules against hormone-juicing in most sports.
That said, all funding for a transwoman league/division should come out of the existing funding for men’s leagues/divisions.

This comes with the threat of disqualification from all British Cycling events for ANY complaint by any member.

But, then they might not win. Which is probably violence against them.
Some welcome news, as British Cycling backs down for now.
