Slavery and Ivy
Last week Grace Lavery, this week Veronica Ivy.
Now, maybe the idea is to give these creepy misogynist men the rope to hang themselves with, but is it worth it? And maybe that isn’t the idea, maybe the idea is just provocative, name recognition, noise. Rhys McKinnon is a loathsome, sadistic individual who relishes cheating women out of opportunities to race and medals. It’s not really cute to reward him with a chance to preen himself on Woman’s Hour.
Slavery and Ivy? Another column about PhDs employed by top universities without being paid? Oh, OK, a different Slavery and Ivy. Hard to keep topics straight in my head in recent days.
“A PhD/world champion athlete/self proclaimed athlete rights expert…”
A relevant fact – that world championship was obtained while competing against women, and Ivy continues to race against women competitively. Surely the BBC can see that this represents a glaring vested interest in a particular outcome?
Sackbut – I know – it’s a theme lately. (Grace Lavery=Grey Slavery.)
@1: It’s all the same topic, ultimately. Utter unfairness being presented as fairness and honesty.
Someone with a stronger stomach for the original could probably rework the lyrics to Wonder/McCartney’s Ebony and Ivory to good effect here.
I am not that person.
And my apologies for any resultant earworms I may have unleashed in innocent, unsuspecting heads.
