Revenge
The past few hours have seen wave after wave of explosions, not just here in Kyiv, but all across this vast country, from Lviv in the west to Kharkiv in the east and Odesa in the south.
For those of us who were here when Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February, there’s an element of déjà vu. We’ve been told to spend as much time as we can in the basement, as further attacks, using missiles and drones, are expected.
But this is also different. The explosions here in Kyiv are much closer to the centre. Not distant thumps from the suburbs, but loud reverberations close to streets and locations we’ve come to know well in the past eight months.
It’s difficult to tell what is being targeted, but a statement from Ukraine’s ministry of culture said museums and the Philharmonic building had been hit.
One video circulating on social media showed a huge crater in a children’s playground.
Another showed a missile slamming into Mayor Vitali Klitschko’s glass bridge, a popular tourist spot and viewpoint above the Dnipro River.
Putin identifies as the boss of Ukraine. Ukraine doesn’t see it that way.
Hitting civilian targets…but then, when has Putin ever been held responsible for war crimes?
I hope Putin’s countrymen dispose of him before this tit provokes a tat.
Putin has painted himself into a corner in his attempt to restore at least some of the old Tsarist Empire. True to the Stalinist tradition, he has reason to suspect everybody and to trust nobody, and his judo skills will not be of much use against a determined would-be assassin. Thus his absurdly long official table in the Kremlin; he keeps everyone as distant as possible.
As his Final Solution of his Ukrainian problem wears on, increasing numbers of Russians will likely incline to export him to The Hague, from whence he will be transferred to some suitable slammer for the rest of his godawful life, if not terminated.
I am personally against the death penalty, because too many innocent people have been found to be such and posthumously ‘pardoned’ by legal systems which got it wrong. But I make exception in the cases of tyrants like Saddam Hussein and megalomaniacs like Putin, of whose crimes there can be absolutely no doubt, reasonable.or otherwise. Not one shred thereof.
Omar: Aslong as include Obama and Clinton. Their little Libyan adventure has created waves of misery across the Sahel.
to be bipartisan I would include W of course.
