Raising money for a women-only charity
Our friend latsot has signed up for various wheelchair distance events in 2022 including the Leeds and Sheffield half marathons, the Middlesbrough 10k and (fingers crossed) the Great North Run.
He’s raising money for nia, a women-led, women-only, secular, rights-based registered charity which has been delivering services to women, girls and children who have been subjected to sexual and domestic violence and abuse, including prostitution, since 1975.
His crowdfunder for the Sheffield event (in March) is here.
He urges you to donate if you can and share the link if you like!
Thank you! I’ve really enjoyed chatting with Latsot, even as little as I do. He’s a good fella.
James:
LIES! I’m not!
Thanks, Ophelia.
nia is a brilliant charity which is very clear that womanhood is defined by sex. I also looked for similar, more local charities, but I found none with a similarly robust policy on that. I couldn’t be sure that they wouldn’t support shelters and services that force women to share spaces with men.
I really hope I get a place in the Great North Run, which takes place in Newcastle. I haven’t lived in Newcastle for more than 20 years, but it still feels like home to me. Plus, it’s a big and important event. If I don’t, though, there should still be time to enter another half marathon this year. Next year, who knows? Perhaps a marathon.
I’m planning to make a matching donation for whatever I raise to the LGB Alliance, but I haven’t made that public yet. I probably will in the next day or so.
Done, and thank you for your fundraising and for your careful research.
Is the obstacle with the Great North Run just that so many people want to get a place that they’re clogging up the works? Anyway here’s hoping.
Thanks, guest!
I’ve noticed that a few donations have come in, but I haven’t had chance to look at them yet.
Ophelia:
No obstacle as such, it’s just that so many people want a place that everyone is put into a ballot and places are chosen at random once the ballot closes.
It’s a little different if you raise money for one of the official charities or if you have a place from an athletics club, but neither of those apply to me.
Done.
Thank you, latsot!
Bon chance!
No, thank you maddog.
