Maybe climate activism leads on to an ‘anything goes’ neo-Puritanism. “Anything I don’t want, nobody else should want either.” Dr Goebbels would be impressed with Greta. (Actually, Greta Goebbels could really go places.)
Puritanism is the opposite of anything goes, surely.
Anyway what do you mean? You think “climate activism” leads people astray? What should we do then, just watch stupidly while the planet heats up and the great die-off kicks into high gear?
OB: I speak as a climate ‘activist’ myself. Goebbels was into information control as a means of controlling people. I am a freethinker and am against nearly all censorship, though I admittedly would not like stuff like the launch codes of ICBMs to fall into the wrong hands. The tweet by Dylan Hamilton and Greta Thunberg says: “Earlier this evening myself and other activists engaged in direct action. A screening of a transphobic film was to be held at Edinburgh Uni, we decided that wasn’t happening.”
They wanted to stop the screening of a film they themselves did not approve of, rather than let the members of the audience see it and make up their own minds. Goebbels, I think, would have done the same, or at least thought along similar lines. That’s all.
I’ve been fairly suspicious for some time now that Greta is under the pall of adults manipulating her. I have no evidence of that, just suspicion. I support her climate activism, but this attack against free assembly seems to contradict that message. It doesn’t make sense.
Three heart emojis isn’t much of a statement. It could even be sarcasm, or maybe an olive branch. Incurring the wrath of the trans cult wouldn’t be good for her cause, which is an important one, unlike theirs. I think I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. It’s not uncommon to be uninformed of the deeper implications of the trans agenda.
@6: Of all things to retweet and heart, this isn’t simply “Trans rights are human rights” or even “Trans people deserve to pee wherever they want”. This is “Yay, preventing women (and possibly men — I don’t know who the audience was) from watching a film!”
At the same time, she’s a very young woman, barely an adult. I can see a bit of myself in her (at that age), her parents have put her in the spotlight, she’s autistic and anorexic. I’m not angry at her for this tweet, I’m just sad and feel sorry for her.
There’s a good discussion here, though I feel more sympathetic towards Greta than many of the women in that thread seem to.
I read down a little way in both of their timelines, and they share the same interest in climate activism, but I haven’t seen any instance where Greta made a statement about anything trans related. Dylan has, and he looks like a rebel in search of a cause type. Maybe she was just supporting a fellow activist for a perceived ‘win’ at activisming. Again, just being charitable toward Greta, I could be wrong. There is history of mutual retweets about climate issues between them.
Maybe, but I haven’t seen anything. Here again, I don’t think these young people understand the implications, and it also seems that most of them won’t listen to reasonable discussion on the subject, as we’ve seen. There’s quite a bit of propaganda to wade through from the trans cult.
As others have pointed out this is not the first red flag either. So much for not putting ideology above science, I guess…
I don’t think there is anything about climate activism in particular that makes people predisposed to embrace gender ideology, but in our highly polarized political landscape concerns about climate change have come to be closely associated with the political left, and leftism definitely makes people predisposed to embrace gender ideology at this point. Of course there is nothing actually “progressive” about trans rights activism in its current form – this is a social injustice movement like MRAs, Incels and the pro-“sex work” lobby – but once you have identified your tribe siding with the “right” (i.e. the left) people quickly becomes an end in itself, and even comes to trump everything else.
It has long been my suspicion that Swedish youth culture has gone further down the gender ideology rabbit hole than most. So this does not really surprise me all that much.
I was under the impression, from when GT first became famous for her climate activism, that she was on the autistic spectrum. From what I understand, autistic people can be highly intelligent, but they may not process social conditioning the same as most people. People who look to others for social cues are, I would think, subject to manipulation.
So…Greta Thunberg is autistic, strongly in favour of trans activism, surrounded by “purity spiral” people, and has often been publicly criticised for not dressing and acting in a more stereotypically “feminine” way.
I think it’s reasonable to expect people who are brilliant at one thing not to be equally brilliant at all things. Maybe she hasn’t thought through what a threat trans activism is to girls and women, especially autistic girls. Maybe she hasn’t considered that the people she’s throwing hearts at would happily put Andrew Tate in a women’s prison if he just says he’s a woman. It’d be nice if she did think that through. But she did just drastically reduce one nasty man’s carbon imprint, and that seems consistent with her mission.

And where does Goebbels come into it?

From what I’ve heard from her elsewhere, she’s definitely in favour of trans activism.

Is she going to go the same way as Elliot Page?

” Maybe she hasn’t thought through what a threat trans activism is to girls and women, especially autistic girls.”
Oh yeah. Trans activism is not good for SEND minors, especially those with autism:

Mostly Cloudy, could you please tell the class what “SEND” stands for?
Thanks.
I suspect it is “Special Education Needs and Disability”.

That’s correct, Sackbut. It’s “Special Education Needs and Disability”.

Then there is this explanation ;^)
