Only be sure always to call it “research”
Researchers from King’s College London wish to explore transgender women’s beliefs, attitudes and expectations/experiences of menopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It is hoped that the study will help to build knowledge to better support transgender healthcare, wellbeing and the transgender community as a whole.
Ok but there’s just one small problem: transgender women are men, and men don’t have any experiences of menopause. If they have expectations about it they’re delusional.
The study consists of a short online questionnaire on your personal views and experiences of HRT and menopause. It will also collect some background information, such as your age, ethnicity and employment status.
Men don’t have experience of menopause.
There’s nothing to “research.” Men don’t have menopause. And, geez, stop calling cross-sex hormones “HRT.” These men using female hormones are not replacing their natural hormones. These selfish men demand cross-sex hormones in such volumes that women who need actual hormone replacement medical treatment can’t get. The men have hogged up the supply.
It’s lies from top to bottom, and side to side.
Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling.
…and in conclusion, the study determined that the main experience was a fetishistic envy.
OK, first, get an editor.
Second, yeah, it doesn’t take 10 minutes to type “I dunno.”
For once, I’d be skeptical about the worth of reacting to this.
It is clearly stated that it is a study about beliefs in the opening. That’s a legitimate research question to investigate, provided the people behind the study are actually non-partisan and not trying to disguise the results.
I wonder what controls they will use. “Cis” people of either sex would be legit, it would illustrate how much of these beliefs are being influenced by prior or biological identification, and if self identifying as trans does change anything about it.
I would actually be interested in the results.
What? Of course we do! I’ve been experiencing menopause my whole life, ever since I was born! In fact, I’ve never had a menstrual flow. Surely my menopause is much more valid than the silly female menopause, which kicks in only in middle age.
Laurent, I think I have to disagree on this one. Men have been giving their opinion, their beliefs, and their experience of menopause for a long time, and shutting out the women who were saying, no, I’ve done it, and it’s not like that at all. We have been on the receiving end of men’s opinion about this forever, and there simply is nothing more interesting to say, even if those men believe they are women.
And as for their experience of menopause, nope.
This sounds just like another of those “research” studies to assert that, see, trans women do have an experience that is like a woman! They experience menopause! Uh uh.
Again, nothing I can think of that hasn’t been said ad nauseum throughout years, decades, centuries of men telling women things that they had no experience of.
@Laurent
It is also clearly stated that it is a study about attitudes and expectations/experiences of menopause in the opening.
And as for iknklast #6, hell yeah. Spot on. Sometimes we all need to say “STFU mansplainer”.
Sometimes people who want to be supportive of trans rights are totally muddled about the whole thing (easily done). I wonder if there’s any chance that they think transgender women are women who are transgender. So they’re women, right, but they are trans so get this: They actually have male brains! So they are really men, but of course their bodies are all wrong and they have periods and eventually a menopause but it’s tough for them because they have short hair and wear jeans and hoodies and people don’t expect them to have these stupid lady problems like hot flushes and stuff.
I don’t suppose this is happening here but still, it’s an amusing thought. And it would mean they would be talking to the right people at least.
Of course, by that criteria, most women would be men. There are more women who have the so-called “man’s brain” than there are that have the so-called “woman’s brain”. Isn’t it time we gave up the whole man’s brain/woman’s brain bullshit and admit we just have human brains?
