Occupied
Former US President Donald Trump has said his Florida home is being raided by the FBI.
Mr Trump said in a statement Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach was being “occupied by a large group of FBI agents”.
Neither the FBI or Department of Justice [has] commented on the reported raid. It is unclear what might have prompted any search warrant.
Maybe it was the story about torn-up papers in the White House toilets.
Updating to add:
Dozens of agents. Searching his safe. Interesting.
Be sure not to forget the toilets, and the pipes.
Updating again:
Dimbo issues a statement:
LOL. This is not a third-rate burglary, Mr. Trump.
The degree of evidence that must have been provided to a federal judge to permit a raid on the house of a prior president…
Trump is going to do time.
Maybe in their assessment Trump constitutes a clear and present danger to the sewers of America. If so, I am inclined to go along with that.
A former president / likely future presidential candidate, who has the backing of a lot of powerful, vindictive politicians. I would think the investigators must already have a very strong case put together before executing an out-in-the-open raid against such a person. This is the first thing I’ve seen in a long time that makes me think he might actually face justice.
The best part, musubk, is that if they have a legal search warrant relating to one crime, any evidence of any different crimes that they happen upon in the legal search process is fair game.
I cannot believe that that safe contains no evidence of any crimes. I am looking forward to learning what was in it. I’m betting there is blackmail material.
If nothing is found, Trump’s ‘statement’ is going to gain some credibility, at least with those still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I can’t help thinking that he will eventually weasel his way out of all of this, and go on to whine and complain about what a victim he is, and how he heroically escaped the injustice. He’s done it before. Meanwhile, he’s going to make as much noise as he can about being badly mistreated, when in fact it was only a minor inconvenience thay he is required by law to cooperate with. The thing that looks like a “broken, third world country” about this is the fact that people like him get away with criminal behavior and face no consequences. If only there was a “broken, third world country” response to it, instead of our system of laws and procedure.
If only.
(by the way, it sure looks like he had some help with that ‘statement’ – it doesn’t look like his style of writing or speaking at all, despite the content)
He wants to know the difference between this and Watergate? Here goes.
1. Watergate was not done by the FBI, but by operatives of a sitting president
2. Watergate was done secretively, not out in the open
3 Watergate did not involve a warrant
4. Watergate was done for a politically motivated purpose (that could be the case here, but I doubt it)
5. Watergate was not done in the course of a criminal investigation
6. Watergate did not have any evidence of wrongdoing of the Democrats, and that isn’t what was happening. They were trying to find random things.
7. Watergate led to the resignation of the president
