Hi Philip, that’s her article
Philip Pullman yet again.
As far as I can tell (replies are numerous and they go off into nested threads and subthreads and disappear into infinity) he never did: never specified and never apologized. Instead he pretended he wasn’t talking about Jo Bartosch’s article at all.
No. Zero points. He said it in reply to a tweet sharing the article, so he was necessarily badmouthing the article, even if he didn’t intend to in the moment. A decent person would grasp that and apologize if he really never intended to badmouth the article.
That’s just cheap. At that point he must have become aware, if he hadn’t noticed before, that he was in effect dissing Bartosch’s article. He should have just admitted it and made amends. He’s really not a very decent guy.
I feel fully vindicated in my assessment of his work. I don’t think he thinks clearly. Plus he’s a disingenuous jerk.
It’s pretty hard to read Pullman’s trolling without noting his misogyny.
I would have thought as an author Pullman would know the difference between an author and a publisher. Does Pullman believe everything in every book published by Penguin?
I had to hold my nose to give any money to Regnery Publishing given their list, but I needed to Read “Irreversible Damage”, so hold my nose I did. In reading the book I gave not a thought to Regnery, but concentrated on the content.
“The media is the message” someone once declaimed. It is the media that carries the message and the message is more important than the medium.
“I wish my critics could actually bother to read what I say”, says the guy who admits to not having read the article. He’s “not interested in it” but somehow we should be very interested in what he has to say about it.
He’s also quite clearly a coward.
Is he genuinely expecting people to believe that he was just randomly suggesting that a media outlet is unreliable, that he might as likely have mentioned Fox News or a tabloid newspaper, and his remarks were only inspired by the fact that people were sharing an article from this outlet, not the article itself? Really? How stupid does he think people are?
