Grace: “…fuck all of these people, i have no interest in legitimating these ppl and i’m not going to be nice to them”
Which I take to mean Grace announcing he will do what men do and try to dominate the conversation. Someone responded:
“I’m confused, before you were engaging with these people in good faith, now you are calling them grifters, saying they shouldn’t have a platform and saying you won’t be nice to them.”
Grace replies: “My goal is to grab the camera and point it at the fascist sect that is destroying the UK women’s movement, of which Joyce and Bindel are profiteering outriders. I absolutely plan to say that in good faith because it is my honest view.”
It’s unclear to me that Grace has called it off. I didn’t see your comment when I typed my previous comment, but if I had, I’d have included the full text of that final tweet from Grace, which reads in full:
[points 1 and 2 were in earlier tweets] “also, to be clear
3) if the events go ahead, no trans people should attend them, or give their money or data to the fascist enablers that are profiting off transphobia. fuck all of these people, i have no interest in legitimating these ppl and i’m not going to be nice to them”
I wonder if this comment serves two purposes. Grace is giving the appearance of being willing to press on with this event – while also giving warning signs that he will be a total shit during it – but that “if” is also a possible out. Hard to say with certainty, but at the very least it has not yet been called off.
Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t see the rest because I’m not on twitter and don’t understand how it works.
Might as well take this opportunity to condemn Grace Lavery’s use of the word “fascist” to describe these women. I condemn his use of the word “fascist” to describe those women.
Looking at the context my guess is that he meant that they are in the vanguard of this “fascist sect” that is seeking to destroy the UK women’s movement, so, actually what you said.
The TRA cuckoos have infiltrated themselves into the women’s movement and are now attempting to throw out its most staunch defenders by painting them as the enemy. It baffles me that people can’t see how very “masculine” these peoples words and actions are. Not the caring and nurturing types that women are supposed to be.
I hereby offer £100 to everyone who thinks I am going to bail, payable in the event I fail to show up. And all anyone needs to do to sign up is to donate £20 to the Birmingham LGBT Centre:
Not a real bet though is it, with that disincentive attached. You can’t bet unless you give £20 to an LGBT centre, so if you think the T needs to get tf out of LGB issues (or if you don’t have £20 to spare) you’re out of luck.
Normally in a bet, the loser pays up in the event that they lose. Lavery offers a bet in which he pays up if he loses, but the other people taking that bet have to pay up in advance. So basically a con.
If there was a Reverse Ferret competition in the Oppression Olympics, I know who I’d bet on for the brass medal.
“You choose location and terms.”
Gets an offer.
“I don’t like your choice of moderator. It’s off.”
Further down, there is also this exchange:

Which further entrenches my expectation.
Julie Bindel is “an outsider” in UK feminism. Jesus god.
Me, #2

Holms,

OB, #4. “OutRIDER”, not “outsider”
As in, scouts that venture away from a marching column or convoy to detect the presence of the enemy.
Ah, beg pardon. I wonder what the hell he thought he meant.

Lavery’s made a bet

And not a very skilled or subtle con because EVERYONE KNOWS that that’s not how betting works.
Grace has abandoned the debate and is saying he will pay the people who took him up on the “bet”.
He is also suspended on Twitter for wishing for the death of the Queen.
