Go ahead and spread Covid misinformation
The Independent on our new overlord:
Musk’s latest post – “My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci” – follows a streak of messages from the world’s wealthiest person on his newly acquired platform that increasingly has amplified far-right and conspiratorial content.
The early morning post – hinting at support for Covid-19 conspiracy theories while offending transgender and nonbinary people – was met approvingly by far-right members of Congress, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Andy Biggs, who indicated that the incoming Republican-controlled House of Representatives will investigate Dr Fauci.
For…? Benghazi was it? Emails? Communists in Hollywood? Jews under the bed?
At the onset of the pandemic, Musk relied on the platform to downplay the magnitude of the crisis. He also wrong
fullybelieved[said] the pandemic would be over within weeks, called public safety guidelines “dumb” and “fascist” as he sought to preserve his heavily scrutinised Tesla manufacturing business, and echoed far-right protesters and Republican officials across the US who have sought tocast[sow] doubt about the dangers of the public health emergency and intimidate health officials and experts who correctly warned the public of its impacts.…
Shortly after he acquired the platform, Twitter announced it would no longer enforce its policy against spreading Covid disinformation, while its new owner frequently interacts with and replies to posts from far-right personalities, accusing the platform of suppressing “information” about the pandemic that has been labeled false or misleading.
It’s all so intersectional. It’s the intersection of unchecked capitalism with arrogance with powerful social media. Hitler plus multibillionaire plus Twitter. Not good.
So given his strong feelings about Covid lockdowns and freedom of speech, I’m sure Musk has had a lot of criticism of the Chinese government, right?
I mean, he wouldn’t refrain from criticizing them because his businesses are heavily dependent on Chinese operations, right?
Musk is not a medical expert or even a good crystal ball reader. People dropped like flies. I lost two friends to Covid in 2020, and they weren’t ill or geriatric. Look at the death toll and tell me how much of a genius this Musk character is. He suffers from ignorance and a serious lack of impulse control. Most of us can’t afford to live like that (and aren’t stupid enough to try). Keep your pronouns, dumbass.
“Hey Siri, show me the problem with twitter and the problem with Musk in one tweet.”
Nonononono, you’ve got it all wrong ; Musk is
I can’t say I’ve ever understood how Twitter is really supposed to work. But recently, I’m suddenly getting notifications from accounts I don’t follow that are making conspiracy claims about vaccines, occasionally something else. I am surprised to see notifications of any kind from accounts I don’t follow, although I suppose I’ve seen news items promoted that way. Maybe Twitter is promoting these tweets to everybody, or maybe Twitter has come to the erroneous conclusion that I’m interested in these things.
Fool’s chasing right-wing love bombs… Makes sense…
Sackbut, David Hogg made a similar observation and was inundated with messages implying that he had been in a bubble and it’s been popped, that he needed to know what it’s like now to be in the minority and that he needed to know what real Americans think.
I’ve also been finding shit on my wall that I tolerate for a brief period then mute, because I really don’t need to have a thousand tweets telling me that the reason Biden traded for Griner instead of Whelan is that black lesbains have all the privilege in the United States and Biden hates the Marines. And these are from member of Congress.
Twitter sucks worse now, but I keep my account because of the good people who sparsely populate my feed, even though I have to skip past a ton of chaff to get some kernels. I’ve tried the alternatives such as “Post” and there just isn’t much interesting there.
