Too bad about the male pattern baldness. They should really stop including pictures with these stories expecting us not to believe our own eyes. Alternately, *more* photos, detailed ones, maybe nudes, then we can see how these jerks should be bounced out of women’s competitions on their asses.
I had to check the date they posted this. It was on March 30th.
The only reason I thought it might be April Fools is what’s pointed out in the OP: it’s too obvious. No filtered wistful head tilt closeup or long distance shot showing him brooding on a hill overlooking the moors. Still, there’s no one on the team standing next to him. A bridge too far, apparently.
I don’t know about this particular case, but I have heard more than one person make the point that journalists who post these kind of pictures are counting on us to believe our own eyes rather than the words they are forced to feed us. If you’re working for a captured news-outlet, referring to TIMs invading women’s sports or even their domestic abuse shelters, jails etc. as anything other than “woman”, “she”, “her” etc., or suggesting that there is any problem going on other than transphopbia, will get you fired from your job. Posting pictures of the guy is your one option for alerting the public about what’s really going one.
YNnB @6 I had a pink T shirt that I got from a surf shop when I was in my 20’s, one of my favorites. I took some ribbing for it, but I was never mistaken for a woman, which was why I got the ribbing. It looked good with my Levi’s (I thought so anyway ;)).

Maybe they learned their lesson from the Thomas podium shot. :P

Interesting theory. After all we know what a picture is worth (or used to be before modern photo editing).
Alas, I believe he was counting on the pink accents on his gloves and shoes to do all the heavy lifting. Shame really.
Interesting indeed. It is a very odd shot to choose if you really want to convey He Is A Woman. Them legs, them male footballer legs.
I seem to notice a bulge in his shorts where one might expect his penis to be. No doubt I’m mistaken.
Heh, I had the same thought, but censored myself.
