The mere notion of being critical of gender in any way at all is now “horrifying” and inciting violence. Has this guy spiraled into a moral panic, is he just performing exaggerated outrage for social credit, or something like both at the same time?
This reminds me of those christians that object to e.g. billboards that simply mention atheism. The very mention of it is considered taunting / aggression / harassment and so on.
Arty, I think both – he’s a real piece of work. The exchange went on for a bit more and he’s both fierce and stupid. Fiercely stupid. It’s a popular combo, but it’s becoming to no one.
It’s so much easier to be able to dismiss your critics out of hand than it is to actually find out what they’re saying and respond to it. Somewhat harder to insist they are all trans-genocidal, right wing bigots when they’re…not.
It’s quite the disability to percieve the entire world as one big dog whistle.
Anyone who can dismiss a book without reading it because it’s got “gender critical” in the title should be dismissed themselves if they can’t define “gender critical.”
“Read the book before you decide what it’s about” is foolish and dishonest.
“Jesus wept.”
He might as well have said
“It speaks for itself.”
“What do you mean why is it bad? It’s obvious!”
“I don’t have to listen to this kind of bigotry.”
Not an actual argument in sight. Not an actual thought, either. Just emotional outrage, and when you try to probe them over WHY they’re so outraged, when you try to engage them to actually use rational arguments, they just throw more bluster at you instead. They simply will not let themselves give this argument a millisecond’s worth of critical thought.
That’s the sign of a side that knows that critical thought is the REAL enemy. I suspect a lot of that performative outrage and anger is them trying to distract their own brains engaging calmly, coolly, and rationally with the argument. They work themselves up in order to keep themselves too worked up to hear what they don’t want to hear.
Must have done the PHD Training in the humanities @zugenia mentions here:
…like, PhD training in the humanities is literally learning how to judge the quality of shitty books before fully exposing yourself to their “arguments”…

Ah, back to high-school, are we? “I prefer writing papers on books that I haven’t read; it makes me more objective.”
So ‘gender critical’ = anti trans violence. Why read anything then, the cover says it all. Fecking pronoun twerps anyway…

Yes we should all judge books by their covers, and judge them harshly. Pfft.
It must be so hip to be illiterate, woke even.
It’s got “gender-critical” in the fucking title.

Artmorty, I came to say much the same thing, but you’ve said it just fine. Thanks.
Snarly little dude, to be sure. Proud of his pronouns, too.
It’s written on his flight jacket. “Snarly & proud” with a sketch of smoke rising from an explosion.
