It all boils down to
Et tu Trevor Noah?
I’m going to have to watch all 13.37 minutes of misery.
Noah starts with oh oh it’s so hard to talk about trans issues, people tense up, that’s why it’s good you’re here: we can talk about it.
Well, yes, they can talk about it, but here’s why its bad that Rhys McKinnon is on The Daily Show: it’s because he’s a cold-blooded ruthless liar and a bully who cheats women in cycling.
McKinnon starts with the Olympics motto that sport is a human right, then says people say it’s complicated, it’s a complicated issue, but he thinks it’s not.
It all boils down to do you think trans women and intersex women are really female, or not. And if you do, it’s really simple: just stop policing who counts as a real woman.
Ah. Well yes, that is really simple, and it’s also really stupid. That would mean throwing the women’s category open to everyone, which would mean women would be forced out entirely. So much for “sport is a human right.” Also it’s not really “policing” to notice that Rhys the Hulk McKinnon is a man.
Because this has had history of racism built into it over the years, it’s not an accident that the intersex athletes who get singled out are women of color from the Global South
All one of them, he means. Powerful statistic.
because who gets singled out for scrutiny is based on white women’s conception of femininity.
Says the hulking white man who stole medals from women.
And that’s being weaponized against trans people too. So it’s a fear of [air quotes] protecting the fragile cis white woman from the rest of us.
Meaning himself and Trevor Noah, a person of color from the Global South. They’re the same! They’re victims of racism buddies! There’s a smattering of applause for this disgustingly cynical move.
Noah then does point out, with much hemming and hawing and “it’s complicated” and “some would say,” that Rhys has an advantage over women and that makes the sport unfair and how would you respond to that?
Yeah there’s lots of ways to respond to that. So the first is, the very language of [looking imploringly at the ceiling] you are born and I’m not biological somehow, like I don’t think I’m a cyborg, so, like this idea that like oh you’re not a biological woman, well I am a woman, that’s a fact, I am female, so all my identity records, my racing license, my medical records all say female, right, and I’m pretty sure [waving his hands up and down in front of his abdomen] I’m made of biological stuff, so I’m a biological female as well, so [gazing wildly at the ceiling again] this question of do trans women have an advantage over
Ok I have to interrupt here – he never comes to a complete stop in all that and still hasn’t, so I’m interrupting to address that “argument.” It’s pathetic. “Look it says right here: I’m a woman!!” Yes, we know, because there’s been an intense campaign to allow people who say they are trans to change their records, and the record-keepers have bowed to the pressure. That’s all that is. It’s not an argument nor is it evidence that Rhys McKinnon is in fact a woman. It’s a ridiculous attempt at an argument, especially from a former academic philosopher.
this question of do trans women have an advantage over cis women – we don’t know.
Finally he ends the sentence.
Yes we do know. Of course we do.
Um in fact there’s basically no published research on this question
That will come as quite a surprise to some researchers I know of.
however there’s good reason to think that there isn’t – but I think it’s irrelevant because we allow all kinds of competitive advantages within women’s sports.
Therefore we have to allow men to compete against women…but of course only some men, not all men, because if all men did it, where would McKinnon be?
He cites a high jump in which one of the women was taller than one of the other women, therefore trans women don’t have an unfair advantage. Trevor Noah goes “uh huh” encouragingly at intervals.
So if there’s an advantage, and I’m not saying there is, it’s not an unfair advantage.
Also, he whines, we’ve been competing for ages and we’ve hardly won anything. Trevor Noah does more uh-huh-ing.
So this idea that trans women are suddenly gonna take over women’s sport is an irrational fear of trans women, which is the dictionary definition of transphobia.
Full stop at last. There’s a tepid smattering of applause, at which McKinnon smirks.
That’s the first 5 minutes. Taking a break from the torture.
Thank you for watching this so I don’t have to. ;-)
P.S. This post, as of 17:50 UTC, has no title. Is that an oversight?
“And if you do, it’s really simple: just stop policing who counts as a real woman.” — And if you don’t, your a transphobe, or a TERF, or a member of a hate group, or an alt right wack job, or a white supremacist, or a Karen, or or or… But if you do, then you’re policing. Noah even kicks off by assuming transphobia is an actual thing.
Lose – lose ideology is so fun. :P
Transwomen aren’t female, by definition. There, that was easy.
Not sure what intersex women have to do with it.
“White woman’s perception of femininity…” — Whatever that is, but whatever it is, Rhys McKinnon has devoted much time and effort to imitate it. Fecking hypocrite.
“…I’m a biological female…” — Then what makes you a transwoman Rhys?
Honestly, Noah tiptoeing around this asshole and his bullshit reasoning is aggravating, and according to the audience, there are plenty of people buying what these con artists are selling.
Would it be considered transphobic if people looking for a surrogate mother to carry a child for them didn’t bother to consider asking Rhys/Rach/Ver to do this for them? If he’s “really” female, as he claims, then, by his logic, everyone would be compelled to consider him to be in the pool of potential candidates, right? If not, why not?
I watched Trevor Noah every single day during the first year of the pandemic, and got nervious on days when he didn’t do the show.
Then, in October or November of that year, he had an episode where he talked about gender-reveal parties, and he said that in addition to causing stupid damage, they also don’t make sense today because “we now know and understand so much more about gender — and in fact, the woman that first invented gender-reveal parties, she made one for a boy, and it turns out now that that child is actually a girl!”
I was really angry at him, and quit watching cold turkey. (And I did some research on Google, and found that in fact that boy is a GNC boy who doesn’t claim to be anything other than a boy. Well, I’m glad about that.)
Oh, that’s easy. The doctor who birthed him assigned him “male” on a totally arbitrary basis, with no reference to anything in the real world.
If that was an assignment, then he failed miserably. He’s doing much better at being a female though, n’est pas? :P
Maybe, but you have to consider that he’s gone through the Manopause,
Just keep that photo of the Mister Rhys, towering over and out-bulking the Mister Noah even though they are both sitting down, in the public eye. Noah is an average size dude and Rhys towers over him and outweighs by Maude knows how much. And most women are smaller than Noah.
Even the hands. Rhys has bulked up a lot since he left South Carolina, but even the hands are huge in comparison.
But hey, his self righteousness is improving. Must be all those cycling wins, look how empowered he is. Hey Rhys, have you stopped beating women yet? Irritatingly enough, that is not a loaded question.
Caster Semenya isn’t an intersex woman. He’s an intersex man. He’s fathered children. He certainly hasn’t borne any.
Hm…. Trevor Noah appears to be 5 foot 11. The only measurement I’ve found for McKinnon in my 45 seconds of exhaustive searching is 5 foot 10. This seems…. unlikely.
I wonder whether someone just made up that height or if it’s deliberate misinformation. I remember Lia Thomas’ height being widely reported as much less than it obviously is. Trans women athletes are almost always pictured alone and seated (if they’re not towering over women on a winner’s podium) clearly to conceal their stature.
I’m about five ten. I have a feeling McKinnon would tower over me.
Once again, coopting people with DSDs. The reason the vast majority of DSD athletes who have had their sex questioned are African women is because 1) the DSD that causes underformed genitalia, but otherwise does not interfere with male development, is more prevalent in Africa and some other regions because of cousin marriage being fairly prevalent, and 2) in the US, Europe, and other regions with more advanced and accessible health care systems, children with these conditions are identified, if not at birth, in adolescence.
The male athletes with DSDs have been the wedge used to open athletics to transwomen. Before male DSD athletes were allowed to compete if they reduced their testosterone, only men who had SRS could compete in the Olympics (and most other levels of sport). The only difference between Caster Semenya and Rhys McKinnon is one was born with genitals that looked more like a vagina than a penis and one wishes he had been born with a vagina instead of a penis. So if someone who is actually assigned the wrong sex at birth can compete as a woman because they don’t want to accept that they are male, why can’t any man who doesn’t accept that he is male compete? Once testosterone suppression became an option for DSD athletes, there is no logical way to keep transwomen out of women’s sports.
latsot, five ten is well within the range for ‘normal’ females. I am five ten. I’m taller than my father. But I am not particularly anomalous. I suspect that is why McKinnon is said to be five ten. If they made the reported height any shorter, it would be too, too obvious. But probably most of us know a woman that is at least five ten (I knew one of those the second I reached that height; the tallest woman I know is six four, but that is unusual for a woman).
And yeah, the ‘intersex’ thing irks me very…irksomely. Not the same thing, not at all.
