Hilarity ensued.
Tory MP Jamie Wallis bravely comes out as trans after rape & blackmail plot. Bravo! I hope his stand will prompt the Government to rethink its block on reform of the Gender Recognition Act https://t.co/jTONbHuGPb

Bravo! No wait, not bravo, that other thing.
Would-be trans MP Jamie Wallis is no hero: sacked as local councillor for not attending council meetings, director of 10+ companies that had 800 complaints, voted against against climate action & crackdown on tax avoidance. Supports harsh laws on refugees https://t.co/9cyBwMESH1

Unbravo? Negbravo? Debravo? Transbravo?
H/t
Sorry. I’m confused here, Peter. Your previous tweet stated he was trans & your sentiments were the opposite
Are you now saying ‘would-be trans’ because of his opinions/behaviour? Is he automatically disqualified? ‘Acceptance without exception’, surely?
Genuinely puzzled… pic.twitter.com/PLI5xvMGIi— James Dreyfus (@DreyfusJames) March 31, 2022
Is Peter Tatchell… gatekeeping?
Heavens no! We’re just seeing the delineation of the limits of tranness’s ability to cancel out transgressions. It’s like quantum physicists testing the limits of fields and forces in a particle accelerator. Here we can see that transwashing cannot be said to operate retroactively. Future transgressions (say, in a women’s prison) are forgiven in advance, but past offences are not forgiven in the present. Have I got that right? Can’t have any opportunist scumbag taking advantage of “most oppressed” status to escape the consequences of their actions, can we? That would never happen, right?
Fuck it, he probably is gatekeeping.
I see what you did there.
Seems to me the last poster is being deliberately dense here. I read it as “would be MP”. Which just proves that our host’s constant calls for clearer language are correct!
No, not deliberately dense: Wallis himself said he’s wannabe trans for now. (I’m friendly with James. He’s very funny as well as GC; good bloke.)
Not to mention that he’s already an MP.
YNNB #2
Of course when dealing with a subject as complex as quantum transics, some simplification is necessary when explaining concepts to the general public. Still, I think it’s important to note that some past offences are forgivable. Under the right circumstances transness is retroactive. Some offences (minor ones such as violent crime, drunk driving, and hit and run) were merely reactions to Transphobic Force, and thus excusable.
Political conservatism, however, and Wrongthink generally, are not subject to the TF and thus the individual must be held to account. If his malfeasance is great enough, we must classify him as NTT (No True Trans).
So, rapists and child-molesters get the Magic Trans Indulgence. Tatchell is even willing to extend it to Tories…at first.
Good points all. I stand corrected.
