Where did the adults go?
Depressing to watch.
What being trans has to do with the reporting on the abuse is that the news outlet called a violent man who raped a child a woman. We are not “terrible” for objecting to that!
He does that over and over – someone asks a reasoned question and he retorts with “straw man” and nothing else.
How on earth is that a straw man?
But…it isn’t.
I was just listening to Helen Joyce talking about her new book–the interviewer asked my favourite question, ‘what surprised you most when you were doing your research?’ and she answered basically ‘how otherwise intelligent, educated, sophisticated people can be so just plain DUMB about this one issue.’ She set out to find the arguments, studies, positions that would persuade her that they were right, and all she found was utter nonsense, leaving her completely baffled at how people like this person, who appears to be an educated literate professional, can behave in this ridiculous way in public.
Without the ability to gather real statistics, the answer can’t be “nothing!” It can’t be “quite a lot” or “a little” either. It can only be “we can’t know.”
I envision some time in the not too distant future when a crack team of investigative reporters get the Nobel Prize for their groundbreaking series revealing a surprising and perplexing connection between women who commit child abuse and how they were identified at birth.

Apparently, he’s a “thought leader.” That’s likely his main problem. He thinks so hard that he forgets to reason.
And he certainly does motivational speaker jargon well:
“Effective D&I initiatives require a firm understanding of the status quo. Only with this knowledge can solutions with meaningful and sustainable outcomes be delivered. The Organisational Diagnostic doesn’t focus on ‘symptoms’ of non-inclusion, but rather digs deep to identify the root causes that prevent organisations from realising the performance benefits of being truly inclusive. If you need a place to start, this is it.”
This. I’ve seen so many people who just want a discrimination problem to go away (or, in many cases, just to stop talking about discrimination) suggest that we stop noticing and recording race and sex, not recognizing that without data we can’t detect discrimination. We have no way of knowing without data, even imperfect data.
I keep forgetting what OBE stands for. Is it:
-Oaf with Bullshit Explanations
-Obstinately Belligerent Eedgit
-Obtuse, Bloviating Embarrassment
In any case, it must be something very undignified, judging by the load of hateful, stupid, misogynist crap this John Amaechi fellow is unloading on women.
Sir John seems mighty intolerant for a bestselling author and “thought leader.”

You beat Omar to it – I bet he has some more ;)
Over to you, Omar…
