On the subject of Kathleen Stock’s book, I placed an order for it on Amazon back in October and after having it delayed twice finally got a notice saying that they couldn’t get it for me. If anyone here has been able to get it in the U.S., please let me know and where you were able to get a copy and thanks in advance.
Not at all: you can tell her (as I’m not on Twitter) that I thought I’d successfully ordered a hardcover copy of her book Material Girls back in October and was told it would be available in late November, then was told it would be delivered by December 23rd. I got a notice two days ago that my order couldn’t be fulfilled. I had previously ordered and received a hardcover copy of her book Only Imagine, and had no trouble getting that through Amazon.
I do not want to order it either for Kindle or for Nook, as I don’t care for e-readers that much. If I must, I will but I would like to get a actual book.
J.A. I had the same experience. Barnes & Noble was also unable to get it for me except as Nook. I did order it that way, but like you, I prefer real books. I find e-readers less satisfying, and find I am less likely to finish the books I start that way.
I know that Stock had problems getting a US publisher for Material Girls. I seem to remember that in the end she used a UK publisher to publish in the US. I don’t know how this works, but that might account for the distribution problems.
Material Girls is also available (in the UK, at least) on Audible, narrated by Kathleen herself.
Confession time: I like real a real book but I spend so much time looking at stuff on screens, I catch myself trying to scroll up on actual books. It’s completely involuntary, I get near the bottom of the page and my finger just swipes up.
I haven’t checked the local bookstores for it, but I will say that on Amazon the preponderance of reviews are five star.
I will probably buy it for Kindle, because it really is easier for me to read on a tablet than a hardcover book. (Don’t get me wrong, I still pick up hardcover books used!) I want to buy it new so Doc Stock gets her royalties. I really don’t think they get them from used books sold from the library’s discard racks.

Do you mind if I tell her that on Twitter?
“Material Girls” is available in Kindle edition, and A a on has a free app for phones and computers.

Trans books are real books!

Catwhisperer@8:
When I’ve been reading on Kindle for a while and I pick up a paper book, I sometimes accidentally tap the page rather than flipping it.
Glad I’m not alone, Sackbut!
