To continue to exercise discretion
Won’t somebody please think of the harrop.
Why should the women DOCTOR Harrop tormented care about allowing him to “move forward”? Why should they do what the GMC asks when the GMC did nothing to stop him tormenting women for years?
Better phrasing: “Please show Dr. Harrop more discretion than he ever showed any of you, so we can all move on from this.”
I have very mixed feelings about professional societies. I’m in an unregulated profession and I often wish that we were so that some of the bottom dwellers could be held to account. Then I look at doctors and lawyers and wonder what benefit it would do anyone. So often the response to even appalling behaviour is painfully slow, reluctant and ineffectual. I haven’t done a deep survey, but the impression I’ve gained is that doctors are the worst. The only time I’ve seen them really get worked up was after a doctor in my home town was found criminally guilty of sexual assault on multiple patients, and more recently when a number of doctors came out as anti-vacc. I guess it’s better than nothing. Better than being forced to sue in civil court for instance.
What a brazen, arrogant thing to ask.
I wonder upon what authority they rest this unreasonable request? Caroline Farrow is not beholden to them.
