The story of Aimee Challenor is long and very disturbing. Somehow he has managed to become highly influential with the Green Party, the Lib Dems and then Reddit, who have all later – after firing him – circled the wagons to protect him from ‘harassment’, by which they mean his just being mentioned.
Aimee is almost certainly a victim, of his father and of some older men. What might have happened to him as a child and a young adult doesn’t bear thinking about. But his behaviour in these organisations has been shocking and their cover-ups are almost Jimmy Savile scale.
Ah, timely. It looks as though Helen/Arty/Graham will be discussing Aimee Challenor on today’s The Mess We’re In podcast, starting at 1600 UK time today.
Wow, some very large subreddits are going dark in protest, including 22 with over a million members.
I first leaned about this when I couldn’t access the Blocked and Reported subreddit this morning. Since B&R is a podcast with Jesse Singal, my first thought was that the bizarre war on him had escalated to some new stage. It took me a while to figure out what was actually going on. I’m not sure it was worth the effort. I would have happily remained ignorant of Aimee Challenor and their whole sordid story.
I can understand that, but it’s important that people do learn about him because it’s an absolute scandal that it isn’t a major news story. Challenor has been at the heart of the ideological capture of organisations around the UK, including the NHS and police, as well as the Greens, Lib Dems, Stonewall and now
Reddit. Those organisations presumably hired him because he was a bit of a postergirl for the trans movement and they all (with the exception of Reddit, so far) dropped him because of his ongoing behaviour and close associations with paedophiles.
This should be a major story. None of those organisations should have been influenced by him in the first place. Now they are doing/have done the very best they can to cover it up and nobody in the media seems interested at all. What’s happening on Reddit right now is absolutely huge and with any luck might raise a lot of awareness of how easily our institutions have been infiltrated and influenced by Challenor.
It’s a distasteful story, I’ll grant you, and – I think – a tragic one. It doesn’t sound as though Challenor had much of a chance in life and it looks as though he might have suffered greatly as a child. But the more people who know about how he managed to gain all this influence, the better, I think.

And while I can feel sympathetic (empathetic), this is a rabbit hole I refuse to go down. Too many people get too much sympathy for their godawful behavior because they suffered as a child. While the bulk of us who suffered as children and had very little chance in life managed to grow up as decent people who treat others with the compassion we did not receive. We don’t find it necessary to fuck over everyone else because of our bad childhood.
Just for the record, latsot, I don’t think you are saying give him a pass. But there are many who do; I’ve heard it a lot. So and so had such a horrible childhood, he isn’t to blame for the awful things he did to you. Hell yes, he is. One of my biggest tormentors as a child had a much better childhood than I did, cherished and adored, waited on and taken care of, and everyone gives me that shitty line about “remember his bad childhood”. Seriously? He is one of the people that made my childhood bad, even as I was required to wait on him and put my needs on hold until his were met. No one beat him, but he beat everyone else. No one screamed at him, but he screamed at everyone else. No one called him ugly names, but he called everyone else ugly names. And I am supposed to step aside again, putting my anger and pain on hold because of his bad childhood.
Sorry, sort of off topic rant, but I needed to say it.
tl;dr Don’t let someone’s shitty childhood excuse them for being a shitty adult.

For sure. And to be clear, I do feel sorry for Challenor, but I don’t think that excuses his (at best) covering-up for paedophiles. That’s why I think it’s important that people know his story and why it’s a national scandal that it isn’t a major news story. It should have been a major news story at every single stage and now the fact that it hasn’t been should itself be one.
Yikes. Good news but what a horribly written statement. “We’ve put significant effort into improving how we handle doxxing and harassment, and this employee was the subject of both. In this case, we over-indexed on protection, which had serious consequences in terms of enforcement actions.” Uggghhhhhhhh.
Although Challenor is no longer on staff at Reddit, I understand that he’s still a mod including on some subs for gender and sexuality questioning teens (presumably along the lines of his PRISM stuff, I haven’t looked). So he still has a certain amount of influence there, in areas he very definitely should not have it.
On the plus side, however, I guess it means that Reddit isn’t an evil transphobe that must be cancelled immediately and forever so…y….yay….?
Are the Lib Dems that pervy?

Oops, the above implies that Reddit has sacked Challenor, when they have in fact given him a job.

Some subreddits are going private to protest this:

Yes, I saw that. A strike of sorts by mods.
This Aimee Challenor seems to have had an interesting life.

Seems like an ideal person to be in charge of other’s speech.

It appears that he now really HAS been sacked.
