Sportscheat of the year
Man named sportswoman of the year.
New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard has been named sportswoman of the year by the University of Otago.
So insulting. They’re rubbing our noses in it.
She is the first transgender winner of the award in its 113 year history celebrating sporting greatness.
He is the first man to win the award for women.
Ms Hubbard competed at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year in the 87+ kg womens’ weightlifting.
Mr Hubbard.
Ms Hubbard, who transitioned in 2012, qualified for the Olympic Games after the International Olympic Committee changed their rules to allow women to compete if their testosterone levels are below a certain threshold.
Mr Hubbard qualified for the Olympic Games after the International Olympic Committee changed their rules to allow men to compete if their testosterone levels are below a certain threshold. Which is ridiculous, and profoundly unfair to woman, because men retain a slew of physical advantages even if they lower their testosterone levels.
She released a statement after qualifying for the Games through the IOC thanking them for their inclusivity.
‘I see the Olympic Games as a global celebration of our hopes, ideals and values and I would like to thank the IOC for its commitment to making sport inclusive and accessible,’ she said.
The IOC didn’t make sport inclusive and accessible, it made sport less inclusive and accessible to women, at the behest of one selfish entitled pig of a man.
He didn’t even have to lower his testosterone levels to that of a woman; just to a level around the lower limit of the normal male range, which is about ten times that of the average woman. Women who were found with testosterone at the levels he had, would have been barred for doping. The IOC knows damn well that Hubbard is a bloke, or they would have barred him for doping, too.
This is a university rather than an official NZ sports body so it’s not that bad as universities are full of wokish dorks and drongos. Given that Hubbard didn’t even win a medal at the Olympics, how does he scoop the prize? There are various New Zealand sportswomen who did win medals.
NZ punches above its weight (!!) when it comes to sports and I see that there is a highly decorated woman, Lisa Carrington.
“Kayak sprint champion Lisa Carrington became New Zealand’s most medalled Olympic athlete, winning three gold medals and bringing her total medal total to six; five gold, one bronze.”
Now that’s an achievement. Kayaking as well, which is great fun at the lowest amateur level.

@tigger_the_wing –
He declared as a woman at 35 so even if he was at zero testosterone levels, the body was built.
Honestly, I just don’t see what is so honorable about this. Must make these people feel good and inclusive to exclude women from their own prize.
I’m worried less about the handful of narcissistic trans creeps like Porky Hubbard than the larger segment of the population (the Olympics is a worldwide stage) that doesn’t see this as an atrocious joke. Being trans is fine, be trans all you want, but when qualified women athletes are cheated out of their chance to compete, the unfairness of it is obvious and undeniable. Refusing to acknowledge the unfairness is the bigger problem.
As for Otago, the joke’s on them. Porky probably squealed with delight. :P
‘…changed their rules to allow women to compete if their testosterone levels are below a certain threshold.’
Not actual women, just trans.
And Hubbard crashed out of the competition on the first lift. I suspect Stowers and Sipaia would have done better.
Isn’t this just a massive “Participation Trophy”?
Like the Wi Spa incident, Hubbard’s participation seems to have been a”peak trans” moment for many. My mother, who is 70 and has previously sided with the trans lobby, said, “It isn’t fair to the others that a person like that is performing with women”.
On another point, a good interview with Helen Joyce in “The Staggers”.

Hubbard actually did worse than failing with the first lift. After failing to lift 120 kg in the snatch event the genius then tried for 125 kg and failed at that, twice. Hubbard was then eliminated from competition and so did not compete in the clean & jerk lift event. Combined score (best of each lift type): 0 kg. Dead last place. Second to last was 203 kg. Nobody else washed out in either lift.
Hubbard then made a heart with her hands and blew kisses at the crowd. Aw — sportswoman of the year!
Sounds like bad press for the University of Otaku more than good press for old brother Hubbard.
‘…changed their rules to allow women to compete if their testosterone levels are below a certain threshold.’
So it’s ‘women’ not ‘people’, eh? Apparently it’s fine to call male people women but not female people–we’re probably almost at the point, if not already there, that whenever we see the words ‘woman’ or ‘women’ in media we can know they’re referring to males.
