Small town
Why would gender critical feminists in the UK be associated with the Republicans in any way? They’re two different countries. The Republican party is of little interest to most people in the UK, just as the Tory party is of little interest to most people here. We don’t decide what we think based on how “associated” our thinking may be with a political party in another country; that would be stupid and futile and time-consuming. Maybe there’s a political party in Uruguay that we shouldn’t be associated with? Or maybe Thailand? Kenya? Better check, right? No. Different countries are different countries. We have enough to do to keep track locally.
It’s very parochial of Julia Wong to think women in the UK have to check with the US before they’re allowed to think and say something.
Oh yes, the gender critical position really is identical to that of the US evangelical conservatives. Apart from all the differences, mind.
I mean really, the difference is stark. While we have agreement on the nature of sex, we are polar opposites when it comes to gender: they want to maintain gendered roles, we want to abolish them. “Objective assessment” my left foot.
It’s one of the props holding up the “GC women are conservative/right wing/fascists/Nazis” trope. This accusation loses most of its power without connecting it to bigotted, extremist, Christian nefariousness. It’s the TA equivalent of right-wingers seeing George Soros behind all progressive activism.
Is this in response to the piece by Judith Butler where she basically argues “the GC viewpoint is not coherent because it is shared by different groups”?
I mean, if Julia Wong doesn’t want her stance that the sky is blue to be associated with the Taliban’s stance on sky color, she should differentiate their positions.
Reiterate ad nauseam.
The idiocy of the интелигенция grows tiresome.
Nullius, I think Julia Wong might be more in sympathy with Ayatollah Khomeini than with the Taliban. Julia’s favorite supreme leader passed a fatwa in 1986 declaring “gender confirmation” surgery and hormone replacement therapy not only religiously acceptable but deserving of government subsidy. Thanks to Julia’s colleague Khomeini, Iran boasts one of the highest rates of trans surgery in the world, second only to Thailand.
Why waste time praying the gay away when you can just cut it away?

I saw that tweet and thought it was from some minor activist from Slate or Vice, but she is actually a senior reporter at the Guardian US. Couldn’t she have got in touch with some of the journalists at Guardian UK to give her a brief sketch of the political climate in the UK? That what Republicans do is only of interest when they support storming the Capitol or elect Donald Trump? That many of the GC women are from the left?
And that there is not really a “Christian right” here except in Northern Ireland, and some isolated commentators (eg Peter Hitchens, brother of the late and lamented Christopher) and politicians (Jacob Rees-Mogg).
yeah, by this logic the SPCA hates jews because Hitler also loved dogs
And…George Orwell was a Nazi because he was anti-Stalin.
Churchill was a pinko because he warned against Hitler.
