Prohibited from being
Our new overlords let us know what we’re allowed to think.
But how is he defining “transphobia”? And “anti-trans behaviours”? And “being transphobic”? What does it mean to say that all are “prohibited from being transphobic”? Is it even true? I don’t think so. I don’t think laws are formulated that way, not least because they would be unenforceable. The law deals with acts, including speech acts; it can’t deal with being. The first Queen Elizabeth said “I have no desire to make windows into men’s souls.” The people who tried to make such windows in the 16th century did it via torture, which is not a very reliable method.
It wouldn’t matter except that Breslow is an Assistant Professor of Gender and Sexuality at the London School of Economics.
And “challenging”. I suspect much of this “challenging” would constitute harassment and bullying. And little or none of the expression of GC views would do so.
Maya Forstater got a ruling that says GC beliefs are protected. What is he talking about?
I bet that LSE no longer has women’s studies: it’s been replaced by the course this knob works in.
The poor guy missed his opportunity to present his arguments in court, such amazing reasoning would surely have changed the outcome. Alas, he was not present and so the judge decided against him.
Wow, it’s a good thing we crossposted, learie. I completely blanked on the name of the person involved in that case, but thanks to you, my comment looks like it was coordinated with yours, which presented the context. Teamwork!
It is in fact the Forstater ruling he’s talking about, he’s interpreting it to his own satisfaction.
Stunning how many people simply don’t understand what a phobia is. Reported cases of transphobia 2005-2021, 8,429,700,650. Cases of transphobia before 2005 stretching back to all recorded history, maybe 3. :P
I would assume that “any behavior that I don’t like” is the answer to those questions, up to and including “misgendering” a person who claimed the pronoun “it” for herself that a speaker refused to use (an infamous episode involving a public presentation given in Seattle some time ago).
