Political correctness run amok
Rs still going out of their way to be bad malevolent people. I guess that’s their brand now and they’re happy with it?
Several Republican members of Congress grew angry on Tuesday over new security systems implemented at the Capitol. The safety measures, which included metal detectors and physical pat-downs in some instances, were introduced after last week’s deadly insurrection at the complex.
And it wasn’t the Democrats who cheered that on, or inspired it in the first place.
“You are creating a problem you do not understand the ramifications of,” Rep. Steve Womack of Arkansas was heard yelling at police who were conducting the check, according to a press pool report.
Yelling at police??? What is he, antifa?
Another representative, Rodney Davis of Illinois, was heard shouting that the checks were “horseshit.” Davis went through the metal detector, but then came back and was heard telling House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., that the new measures were “bullshit,” and they were diverting valuable resources. He also said GOP members weren’t consulted by security officials before they were installed.
Maybe because GOP members are collaborators.
The acting House sergeant-at-arms, Timothy Blodgett, announced the changes Tuesday, warning in a notice to members, “Failure to complete screening or the carrying of prohibited items could result in denial of access to the Chamber.”
Blodgett and acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman briefed Republican members on the protocols Tuesday. In the meeting, ranking member Davis blamed the majority Democrats for going overboard.
“This is political correctness run amok. The threat is outside, not inside. Every resource used inside is one that can’t be used outside,” he argued, according to a readout of the briefing.
“Political correctness” ffs. Now it’s “political correctness” to take measures to try to prevent another violent seizure of the Capitol. The Republicans don’t have any politics any more, they’re just The Antagonist Party.
Bizarre. Even if there is no known threat whatsoever, I see no problem with ensuring that firearms and knives stay out of things like high schools, etc., but members of Congress have been getting death threats, making the precautions just sensible. It’s only prudent to ensure that the halls remain free of weapons. This is truly a classic example of ignorant BUT MUH RIIIIIIGHTS wailing. Sorry, wailing GOP members, your rights end where others’ safety becomes threatened.
Upset at metal detectors that might save their lives? Seems Republicans just can’t handle what many American schoolchildren have to endure every day.
For so many lawyers they apparently haven’t seen a courtroom in decades. Last couple times I reported for jury duty required screening for everybody entering the building, even if they popped out for a cigarette right outside the door.
Yep, same here. Mind you “here” is the city where a man shot and killed his wife and her friend just outside the courtroom some years back; there’s been mandatory screening ever since. The guy had imported the woman from the Philippines because he wanted one of them there obedient women, and when he got her he tried to enforce his rules with violence, so she was divorcing him.
In our city, we have metal detectors, and more sensitive than airports. Airport sensors never pick up the metal in my shoulders, but the one at our courthouse does, so I always get wanded or patted down when I go to renew my driver’s license or get a car tag.
Our courthouse has never been attacked. Violence in our city is minimal; no violent mobs. Occasionally we have BB gun attacks on cars that park at the curb in front of their house, but that is nothing like what happened at the capital. Some of our people grumbled when they were put in (me included), partially because the expense seemed out of line with the threat level. But the grumbling stopped, and people endured the extra 45 seconds to get in.
I realize that the US capital is a lot larger, and you will not be the first and only one in line, so the wait will be longer. But I would think they’d appreciate the fact that people are trying to keep them from getting killed by deranged deplorables.
My city is Allentown, PA, I think it started around 9/11. @iknklast yeah the court scanners beep for everything, even the small pin jurors wear. The staff usually gives jurors priority though which is hardly necessary but a nice gesture.
Even small, local UK courts have metal detectors and half-arsed but present security guards. It’s largely theatre and would not be difficult to circumvent, but there’s no need if you aren’t carrying a weapon. It doesn’t slow down proceedings much.
