Pissing on the telephone pole
Also the TUC. The TUC ffs! As if there were no women in trade unions!
Also including WOMEN – but the TUC implies that women are the enemy here. Not the bosses, women.
Any resources on misogyny and sexism at work? Anything at all? Hello?
True!!! Today’s Forstadter judgement does not change the requirement to treat everyone with dignity at work. Nothing in the Forstadter judgement says “No you should discriminate and harrass workers that say that they are trans or non-binary.”
(And yes, I know, that’s not what they meant.)
My experience of Trade Unions, well pretty much all organisations to be honest, is that they’re quite happy to accept women for the dues they pay, the voluntary work they do, their skill, time and energy. Only as long as that is all channeled in the direction the organisation, generally dominated by men, decide it should go. As soon as women start thinking and acting independently, or expect the organisation to make women priorities their own, even a little bit, the relationship begins to fray pretty rapidly.
It’s not that long ago that unions saw women working and demanding equal pay as a threat to their members (men).
I’m a big fan of the concept of unions, I’m also aware that unions can be complex beasties with agendas that do not always centre the people they should.
