WE must work together – says one of Trump’s loyal lapdogs. It’s not the Democrats who raised “the temperature” by enabling the treasonous mob boss who tried to incite a coup two days ago.
“… we will have peace, when you and all your works have perished—and the works of your dark master to whom you would deliver us. You are a liar, SarumanDonald, and a corrupter of men’s hearts.”
We think of real evil as being coupled with intelligence somehow, don’t we. Or maybe that’s just me…but I doubt it. This was partly Arendt’s point, of course, often it isn’t at all, but still it kind of surprises me that someone as clownish and thick as Trump can stand in for Saruman.
The thing for me about the Théoden quote is that it’s diametrically opposed to this notion that demanding an accounting will somehow divide the nation more. On the contrary, without an accounting, the division can never heal, because the lies will continue, knowing there are no consequences.
Just imagine what these Republican insurrectionist enablers would be singing if the coup had succeeded. They’d be helping the rioters line their erstwhile Democratic colleagues against the wall.
What is the political way to tell those who’ve bee telling you to fuck off, to fuck off?
I think we must take the moral high ground here and try to heal the nation.

zubanel: I don’t know what the political way is, but in the legal world, I think the usual way is to make reference to Arkell v. Pressdram.
Cancers have to be excised before the healing can begin.
I do feel that there is one issue on which die-hard MAGAs and the rest of us can agree:
Lindsay Graham is a spineless doucheweasel.
KUM-BA-YA!
Screechy Monkey,
Yes, but that hasn’t helped him much.
(Also, as we’ve discussed before, it’s National Airport. Not that R-word.)
I’m with Théoden on this:

Republicans when not in power: Give and take is good in politics, so throw us a bunch of compromises to get us on board.
Republicans when in power: WE HAVE A MANDATE TO DO WHATEVER THE FUCK WE WANT
