Forgive my ignorance, as I don’t keep close track of the issue–
But is this happening at the opposite end as well? What I mean is, as there are “trans men” as well as “trans women,” is there a complementary movement away from using the word “man” or “men” in other contexts?
One thing I find particularly interesting about the “racial and economic justice” tweet (other than the erasure of women … typical for the ACLU at this point) is the replies. Who knew that white – and largely male – racists were SO concerned about the welfare of black babies?
I suspect that if their care for the welfare of these black babies was somehow able to be put into a physical form, it would be possible to store this care in a matchbox … without removing the matches first.
Re #4 (and #2), I believe ARC was referring to the replies to the tweet, not the ACLU.
I didn’t put a lot of effort into tracing the replies, but most of the ones I’m seeing are the feminists calling the ACLU misogynist for failing to recognize that this is an issue about women, not “people”. It would not surprise me in the least to see white racists “concerned” about black babies, I see that quite often elsewhere, but I’m not seeing it as a predominant theme in the replies I looked at; maybe I picked the wrong tweet to check, or maybe it appeared further on.
The ACLU consists of white and largely male racists?
Just to confirm – Sackbut had my intention correct. I was referring to the replies to one particular tweet (the “racial and economic justice” one which I’d actually seen on Jane Clare Jones’ feed earlier this morning before coming over here). At the time I read it, nearly all the replies were about how Planned Parenthood’s founder wanted to kill black babies and how terrible the ACLU was for supporting that.
Sorry if my wording was unclear.
And it’s good that feminists are hammering back about the erasure of women. I think there’s a very Strangio reason why that erasure is happening on the ACLU’s twitter, though.
No, there definitely isn’t an equivalent attempt to erase the word “men” in other contexts.
Also it would be a different matter if there were, because what is being erased along with the word “women” is the political nature of the whole thing – the inescapable fact that this is being done to the subordinate of the two sexes. If it were happening to men that aspect would be missing.
That’s part of what makes it so MADDENING. Everyone is carrying on as if women are the privileged dominant caste here, so that it’s righting a wrong to erase them from the discussion, when that is so screamingly obviously NOT THE CASE. Sorry for shouting.
The ACLU consists of white and largely male racists?
Well, I think that they tend to skew white, and to defend racists (KKK, neo-Nazis). Male, I don’t know. But anyway I misunderstood what you had meant, and Sackbut explained.
Another @ 7 – no your wording was all too clear – the pattern is very familiar. White lefty men love to use black babies as an excuse to bully feminist women.

If not, that says a bundle.

There is definitely an asymmetry here:

The ACLU consists of white and largely male racists? Quite possible, but is that whom you meant? Or the target audience of the ad?

Ah, got it, thanks.

#3, #8, this person-with-a-penis thanks you.
Aka P-wap. Kind of catchy!
