It just almost doesn’t make any sense
That “almost” is quite a good joke.
It makes sense in their terms though, because their terms are:
No.
That’s all. It’s just No. The libertarian No, the tantrumming child No, the nihilist No. No you can’t put restrictions on us No you can’t make us get vaccinated No you can’t tell us this is a real virus No you can’t call this a pandemic No you can’t act to end the pandemic. No no no.
I usually think of it as “You should do whatever is needed to end this pandemic so long as it doesn’t cause me any inconvenience, require me to do anything, or cost me any money, either in taxes or in raised prices”, but your framing is more succinct and comprehensive. “Toddler No” indeed. A James Bond movie for the younger set.

So Gert Frobe as Baron von Bomburst as opposed to Gert Frobe as Auric Goldefinger.?
This shows the evolutionary genius of SARS-CoV-2.
If it were more catastrophically deadly than it already is, dropping people in their tracks, people would “get it” and do whatever they needed to stop it. The virus wouldn’t be around long.
If it were a little more harmless than it is, people would ignore it, like the flu.
This virus inhabits that insidious gray zone, just “harmless” enough to make the majority complacent, just infectious enough to keep itself going, feeding, feeding on human ignorance. It’s as if the virus is taking advantage of our stupidity to propagate itself just enough, to kill at a rate that passes under most people’s radars, and, like the mycelium of a fungus, ending up everywhere, just everywhere.
I always say so much of Trumpalo, or even male conservative culture in general seems stuck at age 12. The monster trucks with dualies modified to blow coal. The fervid sports fanaticism. The adult versions of high school or junior high pep rallies. The refusal to listen to any music newer than your middle school favorites.
This, I think, is not totally fair. Many, probably most, of us tend to prefer the familiar culture of our youth. My parent continued to listen to the music of their youth through their lives, and they were not stuck at age 12. I tend to listen to the music of my high school and young adult period. I do hear some more recent music, but all in all, I think musical tastes are set rather young, and if the musical style changes (as it will), it may leave you behind. In which case, listen to what you like, even if it means someone on the internet calls you 12.
This really is just it. The sum total of the objections, boiled down to one word.
In an effort to understand this mindset, I did some reading of current events this weekend. One article in the Washington Post stood out to me, about a VA bus that was touring rural areas to try to get veterans vaccinated. However, they encountered a great deal of opposition. I just threw up my hands and stopped reading when the article described one vet’s objections as being due to “my wife is against it and from all the stuff I read on facebook”.
