Grave concerns
Meanwhile there is also the future to worry about – the future as in next week. The Feds are seriously alarmed.
(I still wonder why they failed to be alarmed last week.)
Meanwhile Tuesday on Capitol Hill, representatives from the Secret Service and the Defense and Homeland Security departments briefed lawmakers on security concerns.
Afterward, a group of Democratic House chairs issued a statement, saying they “have grave concerns about ongoing and violent threats to our democracy. It is clear that more must be done to preempt, penetrate, and prevent deadly and seditious assaults by domestic violent extremists in the days ahead.”
The chairs — including the Oversight Committee’s Carolyn Maloney and the Judiciary Committee’s Jerrold Nadler, among others — said, “This is a moment when our entire national security and law enforcement apparatus must be working in complete lockstep. This was not a peaceful protest that got out of hand. This was an attempted coup to derail our Constitutional process and intimidate our duly elected leaders through violence.”
Notice the difference between that and BLM protests. Some of the latter may have gotten out of hand, but that’s not the same thing as an attempted coup. It’s not even close.

Of course there’s also the issue that BLM protests reflected a response to a real issue, while the CoupKluxKlan was a response to an imaginary one
Yeah, for all the damage that some BLM protestors did, it was spontaneous fury in response to police aggression in every case that I can think of–not pre-planned rioting on social media that specifically brought the reprobates in from all over the country in the days before, and was cheered on by the president himself. Just watch any of the rioting videos where journalists try to talk to the rioters. Count how many times they say “revolution”, and see if you can fill out a 50-state bingo card when the rioters tell where they hail from. It takes days to drive all the way across the nation.
That too. I suspect there’s a connection. The pro-Trump “cause” is basically just “more Trump and Trump-like people because more rage and hatred and violence,” while opposition to white supremacy has just a tad more substance and justification. If you have a real cause you want to make the case for that cause, if you just revel in hating people you go berserk.
It’s really bizarre. The more Republican rats jump off Trump’s ship, the lower it sinks in the water. It must have the scientific community completely bamboozled.
Omar, it’s because of all the hot air they’ve taken with them.
Yes, how many of the rioters would have complained about a “stolen” election if they hadn’t been primed for months to do so by Trump and his Republican co-conspiritors? Trump had been claiming for months that the only way he could lose was if the election was “rigged” against him. He then proceeded to try to rig the election against Democrats by attempting to sabotage the postal system, while warning his own voters to avoid mail-in ballots, thus setting the stage for strongly Democratic-skewed mail-in ballot results, which were then cited as “proof” of fraud. The United States was lucky that local and state level election officials took their jobs seriously and did not collude with Trump. With more co-ordination and prep-time, Trump might have had more operatives embedded within the system, willing to do things in his favour. State and local level voter supression measures were already bad enough as it was. It’s a wonder results didn’t end up closer. (At the same time aknowledging that it shouldn’t have been close at all, except that Trump has a frighteningly large number of supporters across the country. I mean, how could TENS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE vote for this asshole? I continue to shake my head in horrified wonder at that appalling fact.)
Funny how Trump’s claims of “millions” of illegal voters in 2016 went nowhere, as the “millions” figure quoted just happened to match the amount by which Trump lost the popular vote, which, from his perspective he would otherwise have “won.” Had there actually been that much fraud, there would have been a serious investigation and steps taken to prevent it in future. Did this happen? Was that level of frauduncovered? This sort of bullshit should have been called out and slapped down much harder than it was: it helped to set the stage for the groundless, evidence-free 2020 election fraud charges. Tepid media protests of “inaccuracy” or “exaggeration” instead of “blatant lies” an the interests of “balance” or “fairness” when he deserved neither, helped him get away with outrage after outrage, essentially normalizing his escalating mendacity. Four numbing years of reporting this sort of thing as just “Trump being Trump” resulted in a fucking COUP ATTEMPT.
Have the violent BLM protestors (and opportunists) been tracked and arrested? Do we know?
maddog1129,
You’re being facetious, right? Like, it’s a rhetorical question, because obviously if you actually wanted to find out, you could have Google “BLM protest arrests” and found this or this, to provide just two of the links found on the first page of results. (I’d link to more, but then this would get stuck in moderation.)
